Question about Poulan Pro 16-Inch 38 cc Anti-Vibration Chainsaw #PP3516AVX
My rope broke on my countervibe xxv chainsaw. while trying to replace rope the spring came out. i've tried for a hour to get it back in to no avail what is the trick ?
To fix starter rope first you must wind spring and place back in housing. just grab spring by middle and wind ,you will have to get it smaller than housing hole. One end should hook to a tab at housing rest of it sets inside itself. once set in housing dont let go, insert rope housing over top & screw in. rope housing should have some return spring to it when pulled. if rope is not tight on return pull simply add one winding to spool. hope it helps!

Where is the tab that the hook should rest on so the spring will stay in place

Take it to the man. I have done this more times than I can count and I have never and I mean never been able to fix a broken starter rope.
