Question about Nikon COOLPIX L18 Digital Camera

Open Question

Half of picture is grey on computer screen

I utilize picassa and half of the image is grey when downloaded from my l18. This doesn't happen to all of the images just randomly about 30% of them.

If I view them through Microsoft software, they look just find as a thumbnail; however, once enlarged, the bottom half or so of the picture is all grey.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, all you need to do is:

1.Hold the camera normally like you would take a picture.

2.Turn it on and review a picture.

3. While looking at a picture, take your index (pointer) finger and rotate the front "wheel" right under the shutter release button. This switches the viewing mode, and should solve your problem.

I have windows xp on my pc but just got a coolpix L18 w/o any software disc. how can i convert the pictures over to the computer through a usb that the computer notice but doesn't recognize? Thanks...

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

I have my S610 set to take photos @ 5MB. But when I download them to Picassa, they are ~1.2 MB. Is this a camera setting or Picassa?

Neither. The camera is taking pictures at 5 megapixels resolution. The file size of the image is only loosely related to the resolution. You'll note that your pictures are all different sizes. The size is dependent on the content of the picture. If you take a picture of a blank wall or a plain blue sky, the file size will be smaller than the file size of a picture of a cluttered scene, because it takes more bytes to record detail.

If you look at your pictures in your image viewer, you'll see that the pictures are all the same dimension (width and height), regardless of the file size.

No picture viewing for my Nikon Coolpix L18 camera

Same thing happened to mine. After researching the cost of a replacement screen, $60.00, I decided to replace the camera with an L20.
Otherwise here is a site for a screen, http://www.darntoothysam.com/categories/Nikon-Digital-Camera-Parts-and-Repair-Service/Coolpix-L-Series/

Trouble uploading photos from camera to easyshare on laptop

If your using a memory card card go out and buy a memory card reader. These plug into your computer and will download pictures onto your computer much faster than a USB cable attached to your camera. If all the pictures on your camera appear okay with a card reader you problem is solved.

Gettihg pictures into computer.

you should have been given a cable that hooks up from your camera to the ( probably ) F drive on your computer.once you connect the two, the camera screen will prompt you if you want to download.it should give you a few options on your computer screen as to where you want to download.hopefully picassa.if you don't have picassa, get it,it's the best and you can download it for free.DO NOT !! download your pictures to the olympus file as you have bloody hell trying to print, copy,or e-mail them.if you don't have the cable, then you can probably find it on-line or at a store like best buy.

File contains no image data errors msg & will not download pics

This happened to me. When it says: file contains no message, this is because when you coppied to them to a different file on your computer to have tham on there, you probably accidently cut some of those pictures. Therefore you deleted them off your camera. Just delete them off your camera, since they are already on the computer. Then save your pictures to a disk so you can take them to the store to get them developed.

I don't know any of your other stuff, or what you talking about. I hope tthis helps, and I wasn't just off.
