Question about Western Digital 250GB MyBook External USB 2.0 250 GB Hard Drive

Computer Won't Boot with USB2 External Hard Drive Connected

I just purchased a WD USB 2 External 640 GB Hard Drive and it seems to be working well so far (fingers crossed) with one exception. I have to unplug it each time I reboot. Otherwise, my bootup screen hangs and I have to do a manual shutdown, unplug the USB, and then reboot.

I've tried changing everything I can possibly think of in the boot order for BIOS (disabled USB Legacy too) and also tried a Microsoft hotfix...both to no avail. Also tried updating my BIOS with AsRock motherboard without success.

Thanks in advance for any tips I could try.

My computer don't start after connect with my WD

From the FAQ section of the manual:

Q: Why won't my PC boot when I connect my USB drive to the computer before booting?
A: Depending on your system configuration, your computer may attempt to boot from your WD portable USB drive. Refer to your system's motherboard BIOS setting documentation to disable this feature or visit support.wdc.com and see Knowledge Base answer ID 1201. For more information about booting from external drives, refer to your system documentation or contact your system manufacturer.

I hope this helps! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Internal 320 hard drive into external

If you got a USB casing for that, it would have come with a USB and power cable. Yes, power too!

Plug the power, and make sure you have a USB 2.0 hi-speed port. Also check "computer management" and check the hard disk works.

My computer hangs when I start it up until I remove the WD 320 GB External USB connection - then it will restart ok. I have to then reconnect the hd. - what can I do about this?

It sounds like it is trying to boot from the external drive, go into the BIOS settings and disable boot from external device and see if that cures it.

My Mac will not store data on my wd external hard-drive

Take it back to where you bought it, and get a replacement,
or at least get them to demonstrate that it _does_ work, when connected to a Mac computer (not a Windows computer).

WDElements External Hard Drive -- Can't Boot w/o disconnecting it

Your computer is trying to boot from the drive. Go into your system BIOS and you should find a menu called "Boot Options" or something similar. Once there, deselect "USB Boot" from the list.

Peace.
