Panasonic DMP-BD30 won't read blu-ray disks

This unit is one year old, was stored in a closet for 11 months after being used one month (divorce situation). Worked beautifully for that month. Plugged it in to the same video setup I had before in my new apartment, and now refuses to play any blu-ray disk (says "NoREAD", then "STOP"). It does play regular DVDs...what a waste.

I'm guessing from the way its acting that it's out of warranty. Really angers me that for so little use I've got to pay someone to fix what is obviously Panasonic's problem. Any suggestions? Anything I can do other than drop a couple hundred bucks fixing or replacing this boat anchor? My experience is similar. What I have found is that the DMP-BD30 will play a brand new out of box disc on the second or third try. However, it will not play 9 out of 10 NetFlix discs. What is really puzzling is that it will sometimes play a particular disc through a couple of episodes and then on restart will simply not load.

A Panasonic serviceperson told me that NetFlix' floppy envelope is not enough protection for the brittle Blu-Ray coating and that their packaging approach causes microscopic damage to the discs and that's why they won't play.

I have turned off my Blu-Ray preference at NetFlix because of the hassle, but what a waste. Net Flix says there is nothing wrong with their discs, the envelope works fine and that the player is the problem.

Who should I believe?

I bought a cleaning disc and cleaned the player. The problem remains.

I loaded a brand new Blu-ray disc and it took about 10 tries to get it to load. I noticed that the time that on the try that worked I allowed only seconds between ejecting the disc and reloading it. I don't know if that was coincidental or meaningful; but obviously something is wrong with the player.

Use of a cleaning disc did not help in my case. The problem persists.

I loaded a brand new Blu-ray disc and it would not read. I tried reloading about ten times and it finally loaded, after which it worked perfectly. I noticed that the time that it did load I had allowed almost no time to pass between ejecting the disc and reloading it. I don't know if that was a coincidence or has some signficance in terms of what is wrong with the player. Obviously, something is wrong with the player.

Your DVD PLAYER'S lens has became weak.
and it cannot be repaired.
But if you manage to open the DVD PLAYER clean the dust in it & it will start working again but be careful remember that no power should be attached to PLAYER.
or you can buy a lens cleaner from market and try that.
pls rate me
thankyou

Clean the player using a disk cleaner, and check again.

The most likely is that the lens has duston it, try first cleaning the lens.

Upgrade BD30 wi-fi

To upgrade the firmware you will need to download the newest firmware from this site: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/bd/download/bd30/index.html and burn it onto a cd. If you can't or don't want to burn the cd it looks like they will can send a copy of it to you.

Panasonic DMP-BD30 won't read blu-ray disks

Sounds like the DVD/Blue ray laser has gotten dust on it from being stored in a closet.

I would go to your local electronics store and purchase a cleaning disk. They are normally under $10. Insert it and run it though the player.

This sound no more serious than a dirty read laser.

Give cleaning a try.
