No sound and sound menu stays muted so cant adjust
The sound on this TV went out...and when I go to the menu screen I can scroll down all menus to adjust color etc, but when it comes to the sound adjustment menu, it seems to be locked..it stays a muted gray color and i cant scroll down over bass/treble etc. I do not have the original remote. It goes right to the "reset" bar, but I can not do anything

Re: no sound and sound menu stays muted so cant adjust
Have you totally unplugged the TV?
If not do so for 10 minutes and see if it resets.
Try to find a remote that goes with TV>
P.s. Make sure you do not have the saftey lock on. You can adjust the control;s from built in adjustments.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Press VOL+ or VOL- to adjust
The high def stations are full screen as they are transmitted in a 16:9 ratio which is full screen. However the non HD channels are transmitted in a 4:3 ratio which is square and not full screen. Usually this can be rectifyed by putting your tv in 16:9 mode through it's menu's. You can also adjust this setting through your cable box if you are using one.

You need to get to the service menu--it's been 4 years so go to AVSforum.com to turn off the different guns and get the better pattern.
At your risk:
To get into Service mode:
1. Turn your TV on.
2. For X81 or earlier series: Press MUTE on your remote and release.
2. For H80/H81/HX81 series: Press MUTE on your remote and release two times ("Mute" on-screen)
3. Press down MUTE on your remote again and hold. While holding, press the MENU button on your TV set's front panel. 4. Release both buttons.
5. An "S" should appear on your screen. Press MENU again on your TV.
6. Now you're in service mode. Channel Up/Dn - Scrolls through Parameters and Volume Up/Dn - Changes Parameter Value
To get into convergence mode:
Get into Service mode, then
Hit '7' to bring up the convergence grid.
Buttons 100, 0, and ENT control which gun you want to turn off (if you want to align the red to the green without seeing the blue gun and other variations).
2=up, 8=down, 4=left, 6=right, 3=change gun to converge, 5=converge that point.
To exit convergence mode you press 7 once and your screen should look like it's imploding then return to normal and then you press 7 to get back into regular service mode.
I have more info found on the board.
You will have to use the control buttons on the front and navigate to personal pref. and restore that to normal. You may have to re do the initial set up. Be patient and give a whirl. Let me know......
Try going to the service mode. I think it goes like this. Press menu, and hold it. Then press volume up and volume down at the same time for 8 seconds. Then you should be able to go to service mode. scroll down till you find the adjustment for vertical size, the top part. If the service mode proceedure I gave you is wrong, You can try asking someone else here if they know how to go into service mode for your particular model.
