Where are specific answers? Where do I get software from Creative to download to OSx? Then what do I do after I download the software? MP3 is in Recovery Mode what to I do with this? etc.

  • genejazzman2 Feb 14, 2009

The last solution appears to be my best bet. however do you have any idea what causes the Firmware Problem to occur and what could cause this to occur again? Thanks

To get to the Rescue mode Menu on this unit just do the following.
Press down the Reset button and hold the Play and Pause button at the
same time.
Keep the Play and Pause button held until you get to a screen with 4
options.
The First option will be to Cleanup the Unit.
Select this option and perform the Cleanup.
Then when the Unit has finished, select the option to Reboot the unit,
and it will then rebuild the Library on this Zen.
If you are still having problems with your units hard disk contents
being detected correctly. I would also suggest trying the latest
Firmware
Please visit this link Creative Site select the appropriate os and do an auto update.

Save all your files onto a computer first, you will lose all the data doing procedure below:

Go to the option menu and look for a menu with the following options:

1. Cleanup
2. Format
3. Reload OS
4. Reboot

Try first Format, this will erase all your data and restore factory settings, will fix the problem if the problem is realted to bad disk file allocation table and disk errors.

If Format does not work, then download software from and do Reload OS.

You need to download the software from
Creative's website . Select Zen, then Xtra at the bottom. After you download the software, chose Reload OS and follow the instructions.

Here is the detailed procedure to Fix your zen:

"To Fix any problems with broken firmware
form attempted "playsforsure" firmware updates etc where your pc finds
it as a 20mb drive and it sits in recovery mode and does bugger all:

(fix courtesty of cinderlee in creative forums)

    1. Uninstall all creative software & drivers

    2. Uninstall Media Player 11 and Media Player 11 runtime (will require
a reboot for each thing). This is done by going to add/remove programs
and uninstalling (this will put your pc back to wmp10).

    3. Re-install the Zen Driver from the creative website and reboot

    4, Plug Zen in.

5, Make sure you have the firmware update ready, run it but don't click the language bit yet), leave the mouse hovering over your language selection.

    6. On the Zen- select "reload OS"

    7. As soon as it flashes up "reload new firmware now via USB" click the language button

    8. Tada, now the pc should find it and allow you to re-load the firmware. (it may take a few attempts)

    9. Once complete, click close and restart the pc. Everything should now be fine.

    10. once you are happy you can re-install WMP11 and it will work fine."

    check also: 926#post220926.

If this or a different solution fix your problem remember to reward the best solution, or reward will be taken by one of the useless comments.

This is the main reason fixya is not working very well nowadays.

    Thanks.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

It would appear that the fix requires a Windows machine. Solution then would be two fold:

  • download the firmware update/fix even meant for Windows;
  • install and run Windows inside your Mac.
The last could be achieved by:
Of course the easiest is to use a Windows based computer of a friend.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

Your Creative Zen Nomad Xtra mp3 player uses a memory system similar to a flash/thumb drive much like the hard disk of any computer. Just as a computer on certain instances freezes/hangs, the same would happen to your MP3. Like again the computer, the OS would need to be re-installed. In your MP3 the OS is the firmware which has to be reloaded/updated.

Shifting from a one OS to a diffrent os or incorrect unplugging from the usb can cause this to happen.

When it the zen is turned on it says firmware

Had the same problem and nearly went nuts trying to fix it. Here's what I did:

1. Uninstall all creative driver & creative software.
2. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 (Rolled back to WMP 10) and restarted PC.
3. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 Runtime and restarted PC.
4. Downloaded and Installed the latest free version of Winamp from http://www.winamp.com
5. Connected my A/C Power Cord to my Nomad Jukebox then connected my Nomad Jukebox via USB cable to the Computer.

The computer should then recognize the Nomad Jukebox as "Found New Hardware" then "MTP Device" and lastly "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.

6. If you haven't already, go to the creative website and download the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03 and save it to your computer.
7. Run the Firmware (Make sure Nomad Jukebox is connected) and at this point the Computer should recognize the Nomad Jukebox and begin the upgrade.

After your upgrade is complete, You can go ahead and re-download Windows Media Player 11 and it will recognize the Nomad Jukebox. Not sure what version of windows you have, but I have two computers, one with windows xp and the other has windows 7 and Im able to transfer music perfectly fine with Windows Media Player and RealPlayer on both computers. I hope this works for you. Good Luck!

Ok this is what I have found.....Try to run the Recovery Mode here is a link to Creative Labs website that will walk you through it... Just look for Jukebox its on the bottom...you can get the firmware from the same website under support and then just select the type of jukebox you have....that will be the second link...You will need to click on Zen and then look on the right side for Archived Products

Creative zen

After three months of trying and trying in many computers, following many, many procedures found all over the Internet, my Creative Nomad has accepted the firmware and has borned again.
What I did?
1. Connected the Nomad on a computer with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9, that never has been touched by a creaive device.
It recognizes the device but can´t find any update to the drivers,
2. Updated Windows Media Player 9 to Windows Media Player 10,
3. Restart the computer
4. Connect the Nomad and the computer recognizes the device and autamtically search and found updated MPT drivers.
5. Run the firmware update program "ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03 (Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03)"
6. Finally the magic button always has been disabled was enabled so start reloading firmware.
And now the Nomad is working in windows vista.

The difference between the computer where the firmware works and the others is that this has never had media player 10 or 11 and never has installed creative drivers.
Hope this can be useful to smoeone, somewhere, sometime.....

If it won't exit recovery mode and you know the hard drive is good, then you've got to reload the firmware. Do you know the hard drive is okay?

Be careful, though -- you can NOT reload the firmware on an XP machine that has WMP11 installed. It HAS to be WMP10. If you search on Zen firmware, you'll find dozens of articles on the subject.
