I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox twice (the Google toolbar remained) and the problem persists.

  • temmp Feb 14, 2009

    Still a no-go.

  • temmp Feb 14, 2009

Internet Explorer and Safari both work fine and operating under Windows XP.

  • temmp Feb 15, 2009

Zone-Alarm. Be advised that Firefox works fine except for crashing on searches.

  • temmp Feb 15, 2009

    Thanks Crazeetrayn!

I followed your advice starting by disabling all the add-ons, which had no affect on the crash problem, and then went on to the extensions. That's when things became interesting. As I started to disable them, Firefox would immediately crash upon startup or restart. After several reinstalls, the culprit turned out to be XP Linkscanner 2.72. I've passed this information on to Firefox in my last crash report.

Thanks again, as I'm glad to have Firefox working again.

I'd be more than happy to give you a 4 diamond rating, but every time I click on the Fixya! button I get this

Sorry, the page you requested was not found.

Please check the URL for spelling errors and try again, or go to the FixYa Home Page

Going to the page doesn't change the result.

My google search bar wont search when i enter a question. How to fix search

Re boot, reinstall, may help. There may be options in upper far right corner (usually) with three horrizontal lines. It's called customize and control Google. within that dropdown is settings and within search options. your issue may be that you have sellected a search engine other than Google. Thus Google is not your "default" search engine.

I do not want ask I only want google as my search engin

If you want Google as your default search engine, hover the mouse over the search (magnifying glass symbol). You will notice a down arrow appear; click on it and a list of search engines will appear. Click on Google to make it your search engine.
You should notice a heading to select a default search engine. Select Google and confirm it.

Notice below
Default
Choose your default search engine. Firefox uses it in the location bar, search bar, and start pages.
you can select Google or any other search engine and make it your default

Firefox is crashing

Firefox crashes can be caused by incompatible extensions or themes, issues with hardware acceleration and the drivers on your system, problems with your Firefox settings and other issues. If Mozilla Firefox is crashing every time you reopen it, you can troubleshoot Firefox with its safe mode, update the software on your system or create a new Firefox profile.

Safe Mode b> Mozilla Firefox includes a safe mode startup option. Firefox doesn't use extensions, themes, hardware acceleration or your custom settings when you start in safe mode. You can start Firefox in safe mode by pressing and holding the "Shift" key while clicking the "Firefox" shortcut. Click "Continue in Safe Mode" when the dialogue box appears. If Firefox doesn't crash when you start in safe mode, the problem is with your Firefox configuration. b> Reset Firefox b> If Firefox starts without crashing in safe mode, you can make some of the safe mode changes permanent. Close Firefox and restart it in safe mode again. Use the dialogue box that appears to select one of the options such as "Disable All Add-ons" or "Reset All User Preferences to Firefox Defaults" and click "Make Changes and Restart" to restart Firefox in normal mode with the changes. After restarting, you can re-enable extensions and themes one by one and install updated extensions that may fix the problem. Update b> If Firefox crashes safe mode, updating Firefox and other software on the system may fix the problem. You can download and install a new version of Firefox from Mozilla.com if it won't start. You should also update Windows from Windows Update, update any browser plug-ins such as Adobe Flash and update for your antivirus, firewall and other security programs. The crash may be fixed with newer versions of the software. b> Profiles b> Firefox stores your settings in a profile directory. It normally creates only one profile directory, but you can create an additional profile and start Firefox with that profile instead of using safe mode. Close Firefox if it's open, click "Start," type "Firefox.exe -ProfileManager" into the search box in the Start menu and press "Enter" to access the profile manager window. Click "Create Profile" to create a new profile, provide a name for the new profile and click "Start Firefox." Firefox opens with a fresh profile; you can start your old profile from the profile manager window.

Make Google and Mozill firefox my home page

you can have two or three or more but you need to have that amount of search engines on desk top ie; google internet explorer then google chrome as another and what ever one you want to use for that time it opens as normal and you can use one for mozill firefox and other google as you cant use two home pages on one search engine or use your droptab in internet explorer to use a preference choice but will need to change each time for the serach engine its a pain doing it that way so prob best just to down load two or three different search engines and then use your preferred engine choice using your homepage on each search engine hope that makes sense...

IE6 Crashes when loading Gmail! Help!

It might be that Google are blocking IE6- they got hacked recently and it was apparently traced to people using IE6 in Google that were hacked through one or several security holes of the many in IE6.

If upgrading isn't an option, how about a different browser?  There's lots of free ones to choose from, and there's no rule that says you can't run as many browsers as you like.  Opera (my personal choice); Firefox; Chrome.  There's lots.

Everytime I use Firefox in any search engine, whether it be Google, Yahoo, or even the one on IMDB, it crashes. With IE and Chrome it works fine. I have disabled all extensions and I still have the same...

You seem to be talking about 2 problems.

1. uninstall and reinstall firefox. If firefox was working ok before a a recent update or plug-in or installed software might be causing the conflict. reinstalling will solve the problem.

Crash

When firefox crashes, it creates a report that explains the crash and possible causes. If your firefox can open the point where you can enter addresses, you could type - [about:crashes] to access these reports. pick the report that is similar to your crash and you can send it to Mozilla Firefox for clarification.
However a series of known issues could be causing your browser to crash; For example, if you have old version of the Google tollbar installed in your firefox broser, it could be the cause behind the crash. Also, if you have the vlc media player plugin installed, your browser might crash when you try to play videos that would play with Windows Media player by default. In addition, if you have Yahoo Messenger installed, trying to aces yahoomail could cause the broswer to crash. And the list goes on. So the thing you could do is try and remember what plugins you could have installed or updated, what software you installed prior to your firefox crashing and uninstall them, or even simply disable them for a bit. In addition, check and make sure your Anti-Virus is really up-to-date and that A full scan happened most recently. Malwares are prone to causing random computer behaviour
