Question about Sony Televison & Video

1 Answer

Sound but no picture

Posted by lkcwinn on Feb 14, 2009
my tv is an sony vega kdfe55a20 this has been happening for about 5 weeks now. Out of 16 hours of running the TV, about 1 hour after turning it on the morning it goes out for about 30 seconds, when it comes back on, the picture comes on dimly and then brighter to full brightest of a normal picture. It does this 2 or 3 times at most and then 15 hours later it does this again. This problem is progressing in intervals throughout the day and duration length where now it is happening 15 times a day and for about 1 minute each time.

NEW QUESTION: I need to find out the sony troubleshooting page that describes all the LED flashings for troubleshooting, being that my picture is getting darker all the time. So when my bulb does go out, the flashes will tell me something, hopefully.

Thanks, Larry

I am not getting an error code. I want to make sure it is the tube before I purchase.

    • How can I run diagnostics on this to be sure it is the tube and not a fan or other part that needs to be replaced?

    • Also, if it is the bulb, can I purchase just the bulb or do I need to purchase the whole assembly?

    • I need to find out the sony troubleshooting page that describes all the LED flashings for troubleshooting, being that my picture is getting darker all the time. So when my bulb does go out, the flashes will tell me something, hopefully.

Thanks for your help with this problem.

Sorry friend, but the only sure thing is that you're getting a lamp driver error. Odds are you're either having an issue with the ballast or your power supply can't supply the voltage needed. If you're good with electronics you can check the voltages on the power supply and try to rule that out. Otherwise you should take the set in for repair. Good luck.

I have a sony Vega 55" kdf-e55a20, It is 3 years old, and now the picture and sound fade away for 10-15 sec every hour or so and comes back! Anyone knows what the problem is?

Hi,
Lamp is getting weak and TV shuts off and turns on itself because of weak lamp in TV that you see picture and sound fades away for some time until TV reboots.
Replace lamp in TV to solve this issue. Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual and its an easy work.
Please buy Sony original lamp for your Tv safety.
Thanks.

Sound stays on picture goes out

it would probably be easier to have someone come out and take a look at it before you go buying parts you may not need to be spending money on. it may be a simple fix for a repairman and not so simple for you...

Sony LCD Projection TV turning OFF.....help!!!

Look carefully at the front lights. Usually when these sets shutdown they have a blink code on either the standby light or the lamp light. Update this with those counts. In the meantime, you may be seeing a problem with heat. If the lamp area gets too hot, the set will shutdown the lamp. Once the area is cool again, the lamp will fire.

Update this and we'll hopefully fix the both of them.

I have the exact same problem with my tv. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what is wrong or how to fix it either. I notice your post is from July. Have you found a solution since then? - Sarah
