Loud humming noise when dishwasher is filling up with water

I have a Bosch Model #SHE46C06UC/43 Dishwasher. Dishwasher used to be quiet during the entire wash cycle NOW it makes a loud humming sound when the dishwasher first starts up and then it does cycles of humming between the washing cycles. It is quiet during the actual wash cycle though. The dishwasher cleans the dishes just fine....it's just the noise that is annoying. What could this noise be? I have called the local service center(s) in our area, that will service Bosch appliances. They want $180.00 just to walk into my house. Please advise

Thanks!

Have a GREAT day! :o)

I have the same problem--a high-pitched humming noise when the dishwasher is filling. Otherwise normal when cleaning. Did you ever solve your problem? I'd like to know what it was.

    Thanks!

Could the buzzing be from the water valve?

If so, you can go to the SearsPartsDirect website and locate the valve, and order it, or you can do the same from other repair websites as well.

Reply back what you find or if you have more questions.

Your model is pretty new. just so you know your warrenty is 1 year parts and labor. 2 years on parts. it should not cost that much money.

there are two components that start before the circulation pump.(wash noise you hear)

first sounds you hear will be the drain pump. usually rattling noises if something is in it but it can make a hum noise if something is jamming the drain propeller up. which is accessible with a T20 torx driver. take the filters out and the mesh filter. and unscrew the screw in the base towards the left. pull out whatever is lodged.

the other humming sound can come from the next component that activates is the watervalve. make sure you dont have a kinked water intake line. otherwise its a bad valve. i have had to change a few of those water valves out already but not for a hum noise on your model. you have a new style water valve. when brands make new parts we get problems fast sometimes..

It is probably the seal on your dish washer door-- Bosch is know for being a quiet operating washer- try pushing on the door during the wash cycle and see if the humming quiets- If so- all you need to is replace the seal on your door-

Drain Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain pump might be defective or might have some debris in it. This is a common problem.

Circulation Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the circulation pump sound, it's likely that the circulation pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the circulation pump will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Drain Impeller

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain impeller might be broken, or there might be debris in the pump. Generally, to gain access to the pump the top of the pump housing will have to be removed.

Pump and Motor Assembly

If the dishwasher is loud the motor bearings, drain impeller or wash impeller might have worn out. All three of these components are part of the pump and motor assembly. It may be possible to replace one of the impellers, but the motor bearings cannot be repaired. In that case the pump and motor assembly will need to be replaced.

Wash Impeller

The wash impeller is a small, plastic blade. The motor spins the impeller forcing water through the spray arms to clean the dishes. If one or more blades has broken off of the impeller the dishwasher is loud. The impeller can also scrape against the pump housing if it is damaged, warped or bent.

Circulation and Drain Pump Motor

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the motor sound, it's likely that the circulation and drain pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the motor will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is an electrically controlled water valve. When it is new, the water inlet valve is very quiet. Over time, the diaphragm inside the valve deteriorates and deforms. This deformation interacts with the water rushing in and can cause a loud vibration, buzzing, squealing or other noises. If the dishwasher is loud during the filling cycle, replacing the water inlet valve may solve the problem.

My dishwasher is very loud when filling. It didn't used to be loud at all. But now, it's got this loud humming/water rushing noise when I first turn it on and then it's fairly quiet throughout the cycle....

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description, " My dishwasher is very loud when filling "... the issue is likely with the inlet/water valve.

**To remedy this you will need to replace the valve, not surprising for Bosch unfortunately. First you can check it though if you have an ohm-meter or multi-meter by measuring across the two terminals on the coil. ( removing at least one of the wires first though ) It should simply have continuity, if it reads infinite, you need a new valve.**

This is what to look for..i.e.

e601791.jpg
As long as your model number is indeed SHU5302 series, this info below will be accurate.

I say not surprising because this part has been an issue for the B/S/H/ built machines in the past and as a result the original part number 189553 now substitutes to 425458. It usually retails for about $20 - $30USD at places such as "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" to name a couple.

**Before attempting to repair the unit please turn off the power and the water supply to the dishwasher...safety first**

If you remove the lower kick plate/toe panel, you will see the inlet valve to your left...

i.e.

7d9ad1d.jpg

Replacing it is pretty straight forward. Here`s how...

1) undo the water line.

2) the two #20 torx screws fastening it in place.

156e176.jpg

3) the feed tube to the machine at the back of the valve and swap it with the new one.

and

Once the new one is in you should be good to go.

Let me know if you need any further assistance, otherwise good luck.

Thanks for visiting FixYa.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

hi there the low humming noise that you are getting sounds like the fill valve, this could be due to you perhaps not turning the water back on after fitting the new dishwasher or the fill hose being kinked when the dishwasher was put back ,hope this is of some help to you.
