Hello The Sled Motor is defective. this is the motor, whic spins the disc as it has been loaded properly. If the loader mechanism loads the disc properly into place and if the catch up magnet catches the disc in place, and still the dis do not spins, replace the sled motor. OK.
For whatever reason, the laser assembly is not able to read the discs. This could be caused by any number of reasons including an alignment gone bad, to a dirty lens, to a bad laser diode...accordianman
Some suggestions
assuming you know you're using good discs, and have this problem with more then 1 disc. In anything that requires you to open the player and play around in it, I also assume you're not too akward with electronics, and out of warranty:
spindle motor problems - you could either fix that by changing the motor, or occasionaly by dropping a little bit of 3 in 1 oil on the shaft.
Just dont start it as a hobby if you can still go complain at the store...
Good luck
Tried all that it may be internal i think
