It is easy to fix, the shope you brought it from has your details saved on their system unless you brought it 'on the dodgy side'.
The problem is not the earpiece, it is the flat ribbon cable that carries all the power and data (keypad, earpiece etc) from the main body of the phone to the sliding section.
The composite in the cable cracks after time so SE have got a new cable type to replace it with.
Just take your phone back to where you brought it from for it to be sent away and repaired - make sure you get a courtesy phone FOC while it is away.
activate the gprs in your phone get the dialling key
insert the cd into rom connect the phone to the laptop
via usb cable after installing phone as a modem in add new
modem menu use the dialling key to dial.if not phone me on

i had the same problem i couldnthear a thing unless loudspeaker was on currently my phone is in for repair as i thought it wasa a simple ear piece replacement like what has happened before to me on another type of phone(nokia7610 i think) but its 2 weeks almost now the repair guy tried 2 earpieces that fitted was waiting on the correct one t be delivered and no joy when the correct earpiece came he still hasnt had any luck he now thinks it might be a motherboard issue but ill find out when i get my phone back and let you all know what it was and how he fixed it!
