Question about Frigidaire Washing Machines

1 Answer

A loud bang a hammer was thrown in there.

There is a banging noise on our washer machine. I can spin the drum by hand and hear it too. Feels like something behind the drum has come off its track.
It is a stackable washer with the dryer on top.
Model number is GLTF1670ASO

The washer is 5 years old. Could it be anything else ?

I full spin by hand slowly and a soft bang. If turned on it gets louder.
The drum always had alot of movement since we owned it.

I have found the problem for anyone who runs into this scenario.
I removed the front lower panel and in the back a yellow pin was hanging down. This was curious so I decided to remove the back panel. I found 3 broken secure pins ( they look like long screws about 8 inches long ) to stabilize the drum when spinning. They are long yellow tubes that the screws goes through.
I will take one good screw to a hardware store and try to match all of them to replace them.

You were right they were packaging screws that were suppose to be removed upon installation. The machine has worked fine with no noise for 5 years. The drum had alittle give but never made any noise.

I will investigate purchasing a new " rear bearing assembly " and also call the company who installed it improperly.

I feel like removing the whole drum and really get a look at it from the inside , but I have a feeling this is a tall task.

Ouch!! can you "lift up " on t he inner drum with a movement of 1 inch or more??? if so sounds as if you needa rear bearing assy. dont know how old machine is, but genearlly if parts not covered its not a worth while repair. will run hundreds of dollars

not really much more than that could be wrong, someting stuck betweeen the tubs??very doubtfull. most common issue is someting stuck inpump, this would cause a noise but only when the water is draining not when turning the tub by hand.. you can check perhaps a bra underwire, or a screw has somehow caught inside the tub in one of the hundereds of hole in the inner tub

WAIT A SEC!!!!!!!! ,DO NOT REPLACE THESE SCREWS!!!!!!, those are original shipping brackets meant only to hold drum stable while in tranisit!!!!!!!! cant belive they have been in for 5 yrs!!!! they should be removed before ever running the unit!!!1 they're bright yellow to indicate to the installer to remove them.. now it makes sense as to teh being noisy from the beginning.... again fully remove the brackets and the screws DO NOT REPLACE THEM!!!!!!!

well inorderto "replase" the rear bearing yuou would neeed to replace the entire reas section ofhte tub assy, not a fun job at all, but afer removing the pacjking screws did this not cure your problem?? i gues sits possible that there may be shipping bolts still left in the rear of unit

My washer is making a loud noise during the spinner cycle. The drum is very loose.

Drum should be tight - noise you hear is the drum banging around all over the place as it spins.

Check the spindle and bearings where the drum is connected along with the tension on the belt that powers the drum.

Washer making loud noise and wont spin

Check and see if the inner drum is loose and floppy.if it is, it's likely the bearings have collapsed, and require replacement...If the drum feels stiff and tight, it could be that something is jammed between the inner and outer drums. Both situations could be costly...Get quotes....Good luck...Nomess

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

Loud banging

Several possibilities for noise. check concrete balance wieghts at top and bottom of washer, make sure they are not loose.
Check drum restraint spring(s) are not broken.
Check suspension legs for wear.
Check for loose motor fixings.
Finally, remove drum belt, and spin drum by hand, tjhere should be noise from bearings, if it feels rough or is rumbling , then main bearings have failed.

Very loud banging noise when spinning

sounds like a balance problem may be when the drum was replaced they didn't fit the new drum in the correct spot the other thing that would cause load banging and excessive vibrations in the machine is if the shockers are worn out,
believe it our not even washing machines have shockers to dampen the movement of the drum spinning

Washer makes loud knocking noise

I think that the drum bearings have gone on the machine..

To open the door and spin the empty drum quickly by hand and you should hear the noise or say a less amplifed one.. You can also move the inner drum up and down to see if there is something wrong with it..

Drum is sparking when spinning the clothes

Sounds to me as though the main drum bearings have gone and the drum is catching the internal parts.
I f the drum is turned by hand and it feels rough or is noisy, then it is the main bearings.
