Go here for complete motherboard support : http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=P4P800-E%20Deluxe Click on the + next to manual and it will take you here : http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=P4P800-E%20Deluxe  . Scroll down near the bottom of page to this copy : 'P4P800-E Deluxe User's manual for English Version E1867". Download a copy of the PDF file to file for reference.  I checked this manual and it has all the information you need, but you will have to quietly study it, and then print or  take down all the required information you need on paper, as you will have to turn off tthe PC and power to make all the wiring connections to the motherboard. Cheers,  geonz72.

I am trying to install a power supply for my Dell Dimesion 1100 desktop computer

The power supply is held in place by four screws. You will need a philips head (+) screwdriver for the job.

See this diagram as you read the description below. You will be using this diagram to identify different types of connectors... ignore any voltages or wire descriptions/colors that are there.

As for the wires, there are a few different types.
Main Power Connector You will notice a larger connector with 20-24 wires coming out of it. This will connect to the motherboard (and will only plug in one way). Notice there are two different ones on the diagram... one is 20 the other is 24... you probably require the 20 if I was guessing. If there is an extra bit on your connector (to compensate for 24 pin connectors), just ignore it... It will be fine just resting aside the others not plugged into anything.

Peripheral Connectors and Sata connectors
Your hard drives and Cd drives will either use 4-pin (four wires per plug, bout an inch in width) and will only plug in one way, or will use a SATA power cable which is also about an inch wide, will probably be black on the connector, and looks like it has an L shape inside it. These all just snap in place. Make sure each hard drive, and each Cd drive has a power cable going to it. (if there are multiple choices, it makes no difference, as long as everything has power.

Peripheral Connector
If you have an after-market or third party video card (one that you have added or purchased separately) it may require its own power wire... This will (in most cases) be a four wire connector, and will plug into the edge of the video card. If you have not purchased a video card, this wont be a concern, as the default video gets its power from the motherboard its self.

+12v Power Connector
Lastly, there may be an extra power plug that goes to the motherboard (it will be four or six wires and will be arranged into a cube... unlike the hard drive wires which were in-line.) This four-wire square plug (or six wire) will plug into the motherboard somewhere near the processor.

Hope this helps!

Hi i have a Codegen model 450x case and i am trying to install a Gigabite GA-P35-DS3R motherboard and am having troulbe with the start switch wires, the cases wires do not matgh the diagram in the...

I'm not sure what you mean when you say the case wires don't match the diagram. You might mean there is already a plug on the end of the wiring, and this plug doesn't match the board header. If you're reusing the case from a name-brand machine like a Dell or HP, this is possible. They often get custom versions of motherboards made, and their front panel connectors are usually a nonstandard layout. On the other hand, in a generic retail case, the front panel wires normally have separate connectors on the ends for the switches, indicator LEDs and any front panel USB and audio jacks.

This is the front panel header diagram I found in the manual for your board (I looked at version 2, but the connections should be the same if yours is a different version):

pgh_pa_guy_3.png

This board has an Intel standard layout for the header. If your wiring has separate connectors, the start (power) switch wires will plug onto pins 3 and 4. I have never seen a retail case come with anything other than a two-pin plug on the end of the power switch.

If you are dealing with a custom plug on your case's wiring, what you can do is remove the pins from the housing. They almost always are held in by a plastic tab on the connector shell that engages a tang on the pin. Use a thin object like a small flat-blade screwdriver or a knife tip to lift the tab and you can slide the pin out. Insulate each pin with small-diameter heat-shrink tubing if you have it, or a layer of electrical tape. (I prefer the heat-shrink tubing, which is neater and more permanent.) Then you can put each pin over the corresponding pin on the motherboard's front panel header. Unless the pins are very loose, they will stay in place by friction. I often use this technique when salvaging a case.

As for the CPU fan, be sure you have the connector over the right pins. Here is the diagram from the manual:

You might need to rearrange the pins in your fan power connector if they don't line up correctly. This layout looks a little strange.

NEC Powermate V466 No power

billyto91, I haven't worked on an NEC Powermate V466 before, but searching the internet reveals it to be a desktop computer.

My sources do not exactly indicate whether it is a desktop unit, that the computer case resembles a 'pizza-box', or is a tower style of computer case.

This is a Service Manual I found online just now from NEC, (Free),

http://support.necam.com/mobilesolutions/hardware/Desktops/486/486man.ASP

Left-click on - Service and Reference Manual (ELSIE) for V466 Series (DT & MT)
(In blue)

This is a PDF file. May take up to 30 seconds before you see the first page. (Took 6 seconds to download for me, with a medium speed DSL connection)

The reason I posted this link, is to try to give you information on opening your computer case, and see what style of Power Supply it uses. More specifically, what main power cable the Power Supply uses.

1) Computer unplugged from power. Open the computer case. The Service Manual is less than, in that it has omitted some necessary illustrations.

Indication is, that there are two screws on the back of the computer case, that are removed. Then the cover is slid forward, and lifted off. ('Pizza-box' style)

BEFORE you reach inside, I advise observe anti-static precautions.

{Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

Computer unplugged from power, TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

Should you get up, and walk away from working on your computer, upon your return Touch the metal frame again}

If you have a 20-pin ATX main power cable connector, or a 24-pin main power cable connector, there is a procedure that can be used, to see if the problem is the Power On switch, or the Power Supply.

Example of a 20-pin ATX main power cable, and it's respective connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain20

Scroll down further for a 24-pin ATX main power cable, and it's connector.

I'm willing to bet you have a 20-pin ATX main power cable.
Observe the photo all the way to the right.
You will see a Green insulated wire, and a lot of Black insulated wires.

The Green wire is the Soft Power On wire.
ANY Black wire is a Ground wire.

The procedure is to use a jumper wire from the Soft Power On wire, to ANY Ground wire.

(It is a little more involved than this. Should you desire to do this procedure, state so in a Comment. {Believe upper right of your page}
I will detail in length of how to do the procedure)

IF, using the jumper wire turns the Power Supply on, the problem is a bad Power On switch.

IF, using the jumper wire does Not turn the Power Supply on, the problem is the Power Supply.
(Bad Power Supply. Weak Voltage power rail)

This is an example of a Power On switch, that I have found fit's many computers,

http://www.directron.com/atxswitch.html

I realize this is a bit much all at once, if one is not familiar with computer repair.
I will answer your questions to the best of my ability, and guide you step by step if needed.

Hp pavilion 764c wire diagrams

Take a picture of the inside of your computer and put it up on the website with the wire connectors that need to be connected. The connecting wires should be in four groups. 1. The power supply connectors. These connectors will supply power to to all the power using components not supplied power by the motherboard itself. 2 The connections to the other components in your system like the dvd/cd player and the harddrive and floppy drive.3. The motherboard connections for the case. The power switch connector andreset switchconnector. The power led and theharddrive activity light. The USB connector and the audio connector. The fan connections like the cpu fan and other fan only connectors found on the motherboard. The external fans ( Fans that need to be connected to the power supply). Most of these connections are labeled on the motherboard. The case connectors also should be labeled for the correct connection. The best way to find the answers to this hook-up, may be to call HP pavilion with your computer make and model number, motherboard model number including revisions number. Computer made by big manufacturers tend to have may revisions and the only way to make sure your are getting a correct hook-up to the motherboard is call them for assistance.Especially if the motherboard and case labels are not present or so small that they cannot be read.Hope this helps you with your problem.
