Have you ever had a working microphone, if so then use a system restore - Start--> All Programs--> Accessories--> System Tools--> System Restore. Choose a date as to when it last worked. If this isnt the case, check drivers. If you have, then go to your hardware and make sure the mic is selected and you can run tests in there. hope this helps

Why would my laptop speakers randomly start screeching like at a concert when someone turns on a microphone?

Usually means that your settings are set to broadcast (or listen to) your microphone... If the sound from your speakers is being picked up by your mic, and your speakers are outputting the sound from your mic, it will manifest itself as a lot of wailing.
either turn your speakers down, or disable the setting that makes you be able to hear whatever sound is coming from your microphone (it's a checkbox labled "listen to this device" in most modern windows sound configs)

some drivers have a echo reduction option, turning this on may also help

Internal microphone

Usually the speakers on the laptop would act as a microphone- go into speaker properties, enable microphone and see it reacts. Bar that, you could go with the usb or bluetooth microphone route (I use the same headset for my phone as a microphone for my pc)

I have a Satellite M35X-S114 that has a mic problem. I was using Skype with no problem and then it just stopped working. I hear through the speakers and headset but no mic. I also tried a new headset with...

Sometimes programs like Skype will lose the Mic settings and chose another input channel. Check your operating system's audio settings under something similar to "Recording" and see if microphone is checkboxed and turned up. Also, make sure it is not muted on Skype and/or the operating system.

If you have Windows XP, for example, look for the audio settings icon (little speaker) just left of clock area. Open and go to "options". Choose "properties" then "Recording". Look that your microphone is "Selected" with a checkbox and is turned up. To hear yourself during this, you will need to go back and choose "Playback" instead of "Recording" and de-select "mute" (if checked) for microphone and turn it up to see if you hear yourself talking over the speakers/headphones.

Also, check the Skype settings for microphone and that Skype has the correct sound device selected for input - being your microphone and not another device.

Also make sure that there is not a manual, physical volume adjustment for the microphone on the laptop case itself. Could even be a mute button.

Lenovo G3000 38Q - built-in mic not working under Windows XP but built=in speakers are working fine. How do i solve

I believe the problem is that your mic isn't working properly so follow these instructions:

1: Go to control panel and click on "sound"
2: When the sound window opens click on "recording" you should find the built in mic there in the dialog.
3: Click on your built in mic and click on configure.
4: Then, click on "levels" and set the microphone level to 50 and the microphone boost to +20.0dB

If that doesn't work try doing a system restore.Or you could try restoring the defaults on the sound pref.

Microphone and headphone problem

Hello,

Usually when you double click the speaker icon in the system tray you'll see the volume settings for all your devices. On microphone there is usually an check box for mic boost. Set those to mic boost. Then check that all the sliders in the volumes are one increment below the top but maximum for Wave. Then set the master volume to a comfortable loudness This you can access by a single click to the speaker icon.

Next, you can go to Control Box, click on Sounds and check the settings for speakers/headphone and also for recording where there is usually a routine for checking the recording settings via your microphone made available to you.

Please do not hesitate to ask me for more information and kindly be specific if you can. I'm here to help and will get back to you in a reasonable period of time.

Hope this fixed your problem and thanks for using Fixya.

Regards,
Worldvet

Feed back from speaker

Obviously it will make feedback. Microphone should be put on mute. Putting microphone on mute will not stop it working for recording sound or talking on voice chat. All you need to do is double click on speaker icon on system tray check the mute box of the Mic channel.

Good Luck

Microphone are not working

Hi!

it could be a slot issue. to make sure that its not the slot or port, try a known good microphone from a friend or from the store. then if the known good mic still doesnt work, then its the slot or the settings on you sound and game controllers are not setup for the mic. Check control panel and go to sound and audio devices and check the settings for the mic. If the settings are okay then it could be the slot or the port.

:)
