Scanbutton leads to no action

Pressing the scan-button on my printerscanner (Canon MP 160 Pixma) does not lead to action. The response is get is: there opens an communication-window on my desktop saying: Canon MP160 Scanbutton "select the programme you need for this action". Underneath is a blank field. I suppose there ought to be prograames but there are not.I tried via > Configuration, hardware & sounds, scanners & camera's, WIA Canon MP160, Properties, Events > to select an event. The single choice is "Scanbutton" and the sequential action is already on: No Action. The alternative is in grey colors and can not be chosen. What do I do?

How can I scan a document to my computer using my MP210 printer

You can actually initiate a document scanning via the "Scan" button on the printer or by alternately, by launching the MP Navigator EX software from your PC. Pressing the "Scan" button will launch the same software.

In MP Navigator EX, you can specify the type of original, change resolution, choose a format in which to save the scan (TIFF, JPEG, PDF, BMP), and edit the resulting scans. Within the custom scan tab, you can do advanced actions such as scanning originals larger than the platen using stitch assist and scan into a software program (such as Excel or Word). You can also attach scans to e-mails or save them to your PC.

When i scan the images are black and white not color

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)
Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.
  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.
  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

Selecting a Response to Commands from the Operation Panel
You can specify a response resulting from pressing the <Color Start> or <Black Start> button on the machine. Setting the response with MP Navigator allows you to scan documents easily.
Important:
With network connection, only MP Navigator can be launched. Configure the settings accordingly.
With USB connection, with Windows XP, the program selection dialog box will be displayed the first time you press the <Color Start> or <Black Start> button on the machine, as shown below. Select 'MP Navigator', select the 'Always use this program for this action' checkbox, and then click 'OK'. By specifying this setting, selecting any scan mode launches MP Navigator, and the selected action will be performed.
