    Have you scanned your computer for viruses and other malicious software? This sounds like virus-like behavior.

You might have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below..

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

Dear Karen,
protected mode:
Protected Mode is an important step forward in security for Internet Explorer (IE); it helps protect users from attack by running an IE process with greatly restricted privileges on Windows Vista. While Protected Mode does not protect against all forms of attack, it significantly reduces the ability of an attack to write, alter, or destroy data on the user's machine or to install malicious code.

unknown Zone:

In the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser, a site may be identified as belonging to an "unknown zone". This means Internet Explorer could not determine if the site belongs to the Local Zone, the Trusted Zone, the Restricted Zone or the Internet Zone. It may mean the page contains a mixture of content - some of which is from the Trusted Zone, and some from another zone.

PC does not hold the monitor wide screen setting.

Do you mean your internet explorer window?  You need to stretch the explorer window to the size you like, then close, it.  IE remembers the size of the last window you closed, and then when you open it, it makes the new window the same size as the last 1.

Hope this helps.
