when you plug it in does anything come up? If not then go ahead and try different usb ports and see if its read by any of them. If none of your USB ports read the magic jack and you know the USB ports work cause you can hook other devices to them then that means the magic jack is bad and would need to be replaced.
If none of your usb ports are reading any devices then that means the motherboard is bad at that point.
Hi Mate , youll find out more if you look here on your pc ,
click on start ,point to my computer icon ,right click it and click properties, look on the hardware tap for device manager and click it.What youll see is a list of everything that is connected and /or being used by your pc , Look for any yellow ( ? ), These are telling you where the problem lies , if you see one , double click it and see what it says ,here is the best way to install drivers for the usb ports . click install or ENABLE drivers and follow the wizzard
I think you might have a loose cononection for the data ports. Try putting a little bit of force on the usb device. Up, down left right. NOT ALOT. If it starts working when force is used, i tihnk you should try to take it apart and resolder the connections. If it dosen't work, uninstalling the driver and installing.
I hope i can help resolve your problem for you.
this may be a problem relating to your system device driver files.
go to My Computer/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. at the bottom of the page you will see USB.
If you have any yellow symbols ( exclamation Marks ) then the driver has been corrupted, or installed incorrectly.
if you have a system restore disk. this may solve the problem for you. or recovery cd.
If you require further assistance, please ask.
Be safe rather than sorry, get yourself a Powered USB Hub.
One of the problems with USB is that a
device is only allowed to draw up to 500mA of power (100mA on first
connection). So, if you buy a non-powered hub, it will only support one
high-power (500mA) peripheral, and the other ports on that hub may be
useless. Plug a mixture of devices into a non-powered hub and some might
work while others might not. Since people expect to be able
to plug any USB device into any USB port, I think this is really bad.
Using a powered USB hub generally eliminates the problem.
