Re: how to replace rca color wheel
Its fairly easy. Remove the back of the TV. You'll need torx head screwdrivers as RCA uses them exclusively on their TVs. The color wheel is mounted on the light engine to the left of the lamp assembly and has three screws holding it in place. There are also two connectors which have to be undone. You may have to transfer them from the old to the new one. On rare occassions, an alignment of the wheel speed is necessary. If that's the case, you'll need to contact an RCA authorized service center to have this done.

REMOVE PLASTIC PIECE TO EXPOSE OPTICAL CHASSIS. REMOVE THE LAST REMAINING SCREW FOR LIGHT FIXTURE. REMOVE 3 SCREWS HOLDNIN COLOR WHEEL. REMOVE RIBBON PLUGS AND REERSE THE PROCESS TO INSTALL. The color wheel can make a whinning sound for sure, However it should not continue to whine after shutting it off. That sounds more like the fan used to cool the lamp, as that will continue to run after the set is shut off. How soon does the whinning start when you push power?
