Might be because the battery in your car is low. Also, check to make sure that your amplifier is working properly and that the cables are all plugged in tightly.

Kenwood kdc-mp208 stuck in ''protect'' mode....

Protect indicates that there is a short or a grounding problem usually within the speakers2_bing.gif or the speaker wiring. Locate and press the reset button (pinhole). If protect comes back then disconnect all speakers, reset and connect them back one at a time until protect shows up again. This will help you find out where the unwanted DC signal is coming from. If protect shows up when all speakers are disconnected, then it may need service.

Can't make mp3 work

Your KDC-138 is not MP3 compatible according to specifications listed on page 19 of this users guide. If it were model KDC-MP238 or KDC-MP208 then MP3 format is supported.

I have a 2000 Mercury Mystique. I am trying to

There is a good chance that your car has a factory amplified system, it may say premium on the speaker covers if it does. Check to see if you hooked up the bue and blue white wires in the adaptor harness. The blue wires in the adaptor harnesses are to turn on the factory amp.
