Turning on PS3 causes home wireless network to stop working

Have been using the same wireless router and PS3 for a couple of years. All of a sudden, every time I turn on the PS3, it seems to interfere with the wireless router. The PS3 cannot connect, and it also affects all wireless PCs in the house. Essentially disables the home network.

Thanks, but the modem is not the problem. The problem is with the wireless network within the house. I know what you are saying regarding the interference, but I have been using the same devices for years with no interference, so why all of a sudden does it stop working?

I have the same problem. My router is located about 1.5 feets from the PS3 and when I turn on the console my wireless network barely works. Something I did was change the frequency of the wireless. It was working in channel 9 and now it's on channel 3 with no problem.

I found PS3 Slim may cause interference with wireless routers.

I have an Apple Airport Extreme router which has worked fine
in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz modes. I have my PS3 slim connected
via ethernet to rule out wireless problems. I notice whenever the PS3 is turned on, my wireless network barely works. This is unusual since PS3 is a wired ethernet connection and not wireless enabled.

I then unplug wired connection from PS3. My wireless network is still not usable.

I then turn of PS3. Wireless network works again.

My PS3 Slim is located about 2 feet from my router.

I think PS3 Slim may have a shielding problem such that it causes
interference to wireless networks.

Try turning QOS off on your router. Generally, with home routers, QOS causes issues. What are your download and upload speeds? If you don't know you can go to speedtest.net and it will tell you. If turning off QOS doesn't resolve your issue and you have decent Upload/Download Speeds (3mbps/20mbps or higher) then your best bet would be to replace your wireless router.

This is only a problem with the firmware of your modem/router that you need to update it, because a network device like a modem and router that is working fine for severla years and suddenly stop working you just need to update the firmware of it and it should be working fine again, to update the firmware of the modem/router just need to call the manufacturer for that....

Hope that helps.........

Cant connect to internet on ps3

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya.

If you want to connect your PS3 to the internet you need to know the configuration or settings of your router.

To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.0.1, the Default username is admin and the password is blank. Go to the Wireless Settings you'll find your SSID or Network Name under Wireless Network Settings and under Security Mode you'll find the Network Key or Passphrase. You can alsoThen Personalize you Network Key or Passphraseso that you can easily remember it. Take note of the SSID and the Network Key and the Security Mode (WEP,WPA or WPA2).

Steps on Connecting PS3

1. Power-cycle ALL network equipment. Turn off (unplug) ALL of your network equipment, including any Wireless Access Points, Routers, Voice Over IP (VOIP) Modems, and Broadband Modems for two (2) full minutes.

2. Confirm that your internet connection is enabled. in the home menu, go to Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection and select Enabled.

3. Scroll down to Internet Connection Settings and When prompted, "Do you want to continue?" select Yes. On the next screen, select Wireless as your connection method. Pick "Scan"

4. From the list, pick your SSID.

5.On the next screen, press right on the directional pad to continue

6. Pick your WLAN Security Setting (either WEP or WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK). If none, pick None (and skip the next step).

7. If you selected a Security Setting, enter your Security Key or Network Key with the keyboard. Press the Start button to exit the onscreen keyboard. Press right on the directional pad to proceed to the next screen.

8. The system will check your network configuration settings and display the information. Save the Settings.

9. Test the connection on the next screen.

10. When the test is complete (usually less than a minute), it will display the results ("Succeeded" or "Failed"). If you have successfully connected to your network, Congratulations, you have completed the network setup process.

Did this connection used to work but has suddenly stopped? "Power cycle" your router by unplugging it from the power outlet. Wait a few minutes, and plug the modem back in. Wait a couple of minutes for the modem to initialize, then plug in the router. Try to connect the Ps3 and test for proper response.

The Wii may have detected and set itself to the wrong security type during the initial connection set up. Try creating a new connection file and going through the connection process again but be sure that when the Wii asks for a security code, the type shown on screen (WEP or WPA) is what your router is set to.

Change your router's channel setting to 1 or 11. By default, most routers broadcast on channel 6, which overlaps with other channels and may be weaker.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Cant connect wirelessly as i cant locate AOSS button

AOSS is what you would see on some high end routers. if your router doesn't support this method or have this button you can't set up your ps3 using it.

The PS3 does not have an AOSS button. AOSS (AirStation OneTouch Secure System) is used for wireless setup of devices for your network. Your router will have a button on it for this. If it does not then it more than likely does not have the ability to set devices up in this manner.

1)To use this set up for the PS3 go to Settings>Network Settings> Internet Connection Setting> (Method) Custom> (Select Connection Method) Wireless- (WLAN2_bing.gif Setting) Auto - AOSS. At this point the PS3 will tell you to push the button on the router and that you have two minutes or else the attempt to connect will stop.

Again this only works if your router has this button. and it is not found on your ps3

so you'll need to set it up differently. if your home is set up with wireless router and your computers are connected online wirelessly read along....

JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO HAVE A WIRELESS HOME NETWORK... it definitely wont work if you don't have a wireless setup and u are trying to connect wirelessly. people overlook this no brainer.

1) go to Settings
2) Network Settings
3) Internet Connection Setting. confirm on "O.K."
4) easy *it may or may not give you a message reading "checking network configuration"
5) wireless

from this point on you need to know few things about your network.....

6) scan -- once scanned it'll give you other wirelss access point for you home network and some other near your home along with few information such as SSID (which is what you set your network to be -- i.e. "the jones" or "linksys" or "summer home" or "my connection" etc etc) SECURITY (this is the password you set up your network with) SIGNAL STRENGHT (usually your network will be the strongest among your neighbors since you are closer to your router)
7) highlight your network and press x . (you should know what it is) selecting on the other network will probably not do you any good since it'll probably be all locked with password and such and so should yours be.
8) SSID which means service set identifier basically mean the name of your network. if your home network is set up with security and password your home network will not show up under SSID (this is one of the things you need to know about your home network)
9) on WLAN SECURITY SETTING page (this is another thing you should know about your home network or ask the person who set it up) -- most people i deal with have a WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK security password yours may be different so choose the one that you used.
10) WPA KEY - which basically means password. input the password you used to set up your home network (this is another thing you should know about your home network or ask the person who set it up)
**it'll give you "checking network configuration"
11) if you input all the correct info you should get the "setting list" screen
12) press "X" to save the setting
13) do the connection test and if all things were entered correctly you should have success.

all this seems complicated just reading but if you follow it step by step its easy. you just need to know the name of your home network, the home network security setting, and the password of your home network.

My ps3 is failing to obtain an ip address from my router even though every other computer in the house works fine? I've tried turning off and on but it hasn't worked. It did work perfectly for the last 6...

This happens me sometimes aswell. It could be your routers wireless network. Turn your router on and off from the power, this will force your router to resetup the wireless network which should work. If this fails you can try changing your wireless channel, if you let me know what router make and model router your using i can post instructions on how to do this.
Alot of devices can cause wireless interference, so new device in your surroundings might possibly be interfering with it.

Hope this helps, Open

My Ps3 network isnt working

You're getting a weak signal from the router. Several things can cause this problem, including interference from other devices. Make sure the PS3 is not located too far from the router.
Also, make sure you're on a secured network. I've noticed when I reset my router to the default settings (unsecure) the connection to my computer that's hooked up to the wireless network turns on and off constantly. This doesn't happen when I secure the network.

Network printing suddenly stopped working

Perhaps you might wanna try checking the IP address of the printer and see if it matches that of the ones that are mapped in each individual computer. There might be many factors in the "strange" events that have occured (PC gremlins, i call it). That should be an initial starting point.

Resetting the router wouldnt help, cause it is the router that issues different dynamic IP addresses (otherwise known as DHPC) to each and eveny node connected to the netwrok as well.

Another important thing to note is HOW these devices are connected to the router. Wirelessly? Wired connection? The fact that you can see the printer via the router means that there is no problem with the router's end, so the problem lies in the intermidiate connection from the computers to the router. Try to work on this angle. Thanks.

Ive got a 40gb ps3 and a bt home hub wireless router how do i connect ps3 to computer ps ps3 is upstairs and pc downstairs

look on the back of your home hub. there should be a Wireless Key in a Grey box. (BT Home Hub wireless settings)

note the wireless key.

go to your ps3. and turn it on log on ect. go to settings and down to network settings (right at bottom).

(Im not sure of the next section because im currently on a network but it should be an option to find network).

anyway you search for networks. should find your home hub.

keep going right untill you have to enter any settings. and write your WEP Key (Not WKA). (wireless key from back of router).
