MSI System components

Every time go to install Norton 360 2.0 all it can say is, unable to update MSI System Components

    i followed this process. But when i went to install. it. After a couple mins popped up and said "didnt complete" the computer just shuts off. Turn it back on n was stuck on the windows intro screen, for bout 20mins, So i restarted and to me back to my dashboard tried it again. And exact same thing happened. Now wat?

    It acts like it starts runnin Kb then bout minute into it a box pops up n says " Access is denied" ?????



    then another pops up n says KB942288_v3 installation did not complete. then my computer just restarts

If it refers to an MSI System component then it is likely a windows installer problem.
Go to the Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable download page.

Download the Microsoft Windows Installer installation file depending on your version of Windows:

For Windows XP: Download the WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe file.

For Windows Vista 32-bit: Download the Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu file.
For Windows Vista 64-bit: Download the Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu file.


Save the file to the Windows desktop.

Reinstall the Microsoft Windows Installer 1

On the desktop, double-click the file that you have downloaded.
If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.

Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Restart the computer.

This can be resolved by installing and scanning the computer using Norton 360.

Click here to download Norton 360 version 3.0

After downloading Norton 360 double click on the installation file and follow on screen instruction to install the file.
Click on skip if it ask for product key.
After installing Norton 360 open Norton 360 and click on live Update to download latest virus definition on to your computer. This will helps norton to find and heal the up to date virus.

After running live update perform complete system scan using Norton.

Note:
  • Uninstall existing Antivirus on your computer before installing Norton 360.
  • Your system performance will be little low for about 7 to 10 days after installing Norton, after this period it will become Normal.
  • This is trial version which will provide you 30 days validity but even 1 year subscription does the same task. You can install whatever antivirus if you wish to switch over.

Renewal free norton Antirus 2010.
If you only need the anti-virus component of Norton 360 (it also includes an email filter and some other components) then I would recommend a newly-available free antivirus program, see the instructions for installation here:

However, if you do need the other components of Norton 360 I would choose another paid software. You can either go online to Norton's website and download the newest version of Norton 360 here:

Unable to install my anti-virus
Are you Getting Any error message?
If yes or no
1. Download Norton removal tool(nrt) (www.norton.com/nrt)
2. Run Nrt
3. Restart Computer
4. Remove prefetch & temp( to remove prefetch type preftech in run also to remove temp type %temp% in run and remove all files)
5. restart system
6. Now you can install Norton program

Norton Internet Security 2008 installation problem
Download the Windows Install clean-up utility from the Microsoft site, Install it, run it and select the Norton 2008 product and un install it. Reboot, then try your installation again. Let me know if this works, I have other suggestions if this does not work for you.

Installing norton360
NIS08 has a specific system requirement. has your system passed this?

in regards to everyones posts,

your issue is a fail installation and thus requires you get get rid of all the temp files in your %temp%,temp,prefetch folders.

to do this.

start>run>%temp%>delete everything here...
start>run>temp> delete all
start>run>prefetch
somethings there are actives files(currently being used by other programs), so just restart your computer to delete this later.

when done doing this, you have a higher chance to have a successful installation.

everything is in the norton site including the removal tool for failed installations.

if for failed updates... download the intelligent updater.

I'm trying to install Norton AntiVirus and it's telling me I need MSI system component
If you are running sarvice pack1 for xp please upgrade to service pack 2 or 3 this has the msi installer required to install norton antivirus.

Security Alert on Windows
Open your norton 360 and then updates by clicking upates menu. it will directly updates your norton to the symantec websites or you cam manually updates downloading the update here : dhttp://www.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html
After updating restart your system to automatically fixed some errors. If the system still same error just click the balloon on the taskbar and select "i have my antivirus (not probably same word)" something like that. if Finally same error encountered uninstall the norton 360 and again reinstall after rebooting and updates. don't worry about the alert, you know already that you are protected.
