After you use the lithium ion battery for about two or there years, the Dell D600 battery may wear out, you need to buy a new one for your laptop!

Hi prashant_ned,

Laptop batteries do wear out with time and use; extremes of temperature can accelerate the process.

Within your Control panel/Power controls you should be able to get data on your battery (things like remaining charge capacity, charge-cycle count, etc.

For more info, check out the Dell battery FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page at

Where to buy? Lots of places, unless you don't want to shop online.
Plan A: If you're a stickler for original equipment manufacturer parts, you need to contact Dell at this page

Plan B: Do a Google, Yahoo or similar web browser search using keywords like "dell.d600 laptop battery" and you'll probably have more options than you can use.

Plan C: If you like eBay, here's a good reason to go there.

If I can be of further assistance, or if you have questions about any of my response(s), please let me know before rating me.

If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly. My goal is to earn a "FixYa" rating from everyone I help.

Thanks for using,

Here's a link that I use for specialty batteries. Although computer batteries are very expensive, the prices on this site , plus shipping seem to be better than most.

Ive just bought a differnt Dell D600 which I had one that got zapped by electric surge.Question can I copy the programs on to an external drive then re-install them on the new hard drive for the laptop?...

If both of the computers are Dell D600, chances are that you can just swap the internal disks. You'll then find all of your programs, data, emails, as if you never got a surge at all. Only thing, you'll need to swap the Windows adhesive with the product key too, or keep both. Also, this will likely void your Dell warranty unless done by a Dell approved technician.

Another thing that can be done and won't void anything (except the Windows license, for which you'll need the sticker swapping trick) is to fit the dead computer's disk into an external USB case, then use a tool such as Linux Forensics or UBCD to dump the external disk onto the internal D600 disk. This has better be done by a data recovery expert: you run no risk of losing the old data, but you do run the risk of erasing the new D600 without being able to get it to boot again (until reformatted).

Also possible (but even more complicated), voiding neither Dell nor Windows licenses, is to dock the old disk in an USB case and "bring it alive" with VMware P2V. You'll get a old-PC-within-the-new-PC which will probably run slow as molasses, BUT will support virtual-USBing and the "Files and Setting Data Transfer Wizard" which is supplied on both XP and Vista. It will take some time but you can get most programs transferred. Many others will be transferrable with utilities such as Move Me:

My battery dies within 20 minutes of use. I've let my battery charge overnight but i still only get about 20 to 30 min of life out of it. is that standard for an Acer Aspire 3000?

If the battery is more than one year old, or has been often used with the power supply plugged in, it might have degraded.

Sometimes you can regenerate it to some lesser extent by completely draining it and recharging overnight (but that's apparently what you already did).

So I'm afraid you will have to replace it.

A new Acer battery (4400 mAh) should get you at least three hours life, and up to six hours by being real careful (lowest screen luminosity, no disk activity, no heavy usage: e.g., vanilla word processing)

My Dell Laptop battery doesn't work if its not plugged in

You could replace the cells in the old battery if you want to bother opening it up, getting new cells, soldering them together and resealing the case. Unless you're used to doing that kind of work, it's probably not worth it.

But it appears that the battery has reached the end of its life, so nothing you do to it will make it work again.

Check that the cpu fan is working. In easynote usually you uncrew a panel at the back of the laptop. If it is not that may be a common system problem, in that case reinstall your system.
