Delfield 'New 6000XL 6051 Side by Side Refrigerator

I am the second mechanic on this Unit. 1st mechanic changed out compressor and TX valve. I then changed another compressor 2 years later and removed tx valve installed cap tube (unit has no receiver), now unit will not go below 47 degrees. What is the problem?

Need to know what your pressures and temps are when it gets as cold as you say it will go 47? Temp or feel temp on the condenser (should still be very warm to hot on the condenser. Pressure should be 2-15 on the low side and About 20-30'f Over ambient on condenser. I'm betting your going to find both pressures low, and the temps hi inside (at 47 I reckon so) and the condensor coil will be mild to luke warm with the pressure under what I called for (this is assuming all the coils are clean and all the fans are running and turning in the correct direction, and the doors are sealed, and the lights are going off with the doors closed. Im also betting your suction pressure is going into a vacuum or at best 1psig

With all these things eliminated your down to just 2 things now post that you have all these things checked and post the pressures and temps and tell me what you think th problem is.

I had a similar situation, unit cooling at about 45 deg, pressures were 10 low, 250 high.
Replaced capillary tubing, now unit cools at or below 38 deg, pressures 30 low, 225 high

How was this unit originally equipped? TXV? Use only a TXV OF CORRECT size. In refrigeration if you have a 6000btu rating you do not use a 1/2 ton valve you use a 1/4 ton (3000btuh) at most and would need consulting with an engineer to arrive at the correct valve.

SO was the TXV the other fellow replaced an OEM valve? If not this may be the problem as most TXV's off the shelf are designed for walk-in refrigeration Not Reach ins. An OEM valve may be the trouble here.

Now not to stress the TXV but also the compressor (what was the original model?) Make sure it is designed for the particular heat range and size for this application. As you probably know 1 size compressor designs for AC will not be OK on Refrigeration at same BTU rating.

Call Del field and verify what they are using or recommending for this unit. model and Seal no required and the existing model and SN.

Also to my knowledge a receiver is not required and in fact will only add to your trouble. Receivers are for changes (wide differences) in condensing temperature and pressure. Never saw an application for one with a condenser designed from factory for indoor use with either type of expansion device.

If you need Del fileds number email me at farfield@hughes.net and in th subject line enter delfield?.

I have a restaurant refrigerator , when I spray water to the refrigerator's compressor and the temperature went down to where I need to be, so I wonder do I have open up and clean the compressor?

Sounds like the condensor coil needs a good cleaning. The coil is probably under the unit and filled with lint and dust. When you clean this it should help.

What would cause the top of a Delfield 406 undercounter refrigerator to become extremely hot to the touch?

In every case I've been exposed to in this situation, it is a result of the units location. Hot air from the compressor and condenser coil moves across the unit and heats it. Usually the unit is stuck in a "Hole" under a counter where air circulation is very poor. Check this out.

Does anyone know how much energy the traulsen urs48dt should be using per day/month or year? Note that the compressors in my case have moved to the garage which I assume impacted efficiency. I love the...

Ok, next question, when he replaced the compressors, did he modify the evap sections with TX Valves and remove the cap tubes? Per Traulsen specs, all remote units are factory set with TX valves while local units are equipped with cap tubes. If this modification was not done, it may be your cause of excessive electical consumption. Then again, re-reading your recent post, the compressors were changed to 3/4 hp? From Traulsen specs your unit came with a 1/6 fridge compressor and a 1/3 freezer compressor, is that correct? Electrical consumption on these are URS48DT 11.2 Amps 1/6 HP & 1/3 HP (1288 watts) at full load, while a 3/4 compressor is 14.9 amps 3/4 HP (1713.5 Watts) at full load X2 = 3527 Watts, or about 3 times original. I may be off target, but from what I can assume, I am beginning to think your compressors are over sized, drastrically and that the evap units may not have been modified to TX Valve. Let me know if this helps or if there is any additional information you can provide. Current compressor model numbers, previous compressor model numbers, complete unit model/serial number would all be a help in determining your exact specifications.
Thanks
Richard

Clean the condensor

You can clean the condenser while it is running or you can unplug unit . most of the time you can use a nylon brush to brush off the condenser. If it has not been cleaned in a while you may need some sort of compressed air to blow through it. If units are in restaurant and by fryers or have greasy buildup on them you will need to unplug unit and spray some degreaser on it then rinse with water. It is important to clean the condenser, the part with fins and is located by compressor, because a dirty condenser will shorten the life of the compressor.

Refrigerator has gone warm

First you need to evacuate the system by tapping it with a valve, then you cut out the compressor tubes and disconnect the wires. Braise the connections on the new one, run the vacuum pump and put new refrigerant, check for proper operation and temperature. Without proper tools might be difficult !!

very most likely overcharged on freon. With R-409-A, you can not charge by sight glass. Do the ambient plus 30 method if it is a txv. That will get you close. If it is a cap tube, charge to an evap temp of about 20 degrees. then watch it. Make sure it makes temp and shuts off.
Hope this helps

Delfield Refrigerator/Freezer Condensation forming outside door seals

I would expect at the very least a heater circuit around the freezer door. Some of the commercial units also have sprung doors to keep the doors firmly shut which you could check by opening the doors. Door heater circuits are normally very reliable and it would be worth checking the voltage is getting to them, they are also a pain to change out. Hope this helps.
