I cannot sign onto my computer.

Some of the keys give double characters when I press them.

My computer is wireless. The characters copy each other. For instance, pressing b gives b4 and pressing 4 gives b4. Backspace deletes the whole line. If this is the keyboard, I would have no problem replacing it, I just am trying to find out if this might take care of it.

I am not sure how to use this website. In regard to my keyboard. On screen keyboard is accessible in accessories, accessibility, on screen computer, it is great if you are having a problem with your keyboard, but slow and tedious.

An external keyboard did work. Our It person at work re-installed my software completely which came with the computer and now the keyboard works. It is as if I just rec'd the computer new.

hi tconnor... is this a wireless keyboard?

has it been in a humid area or has any kind of moisture possibly dripped into it?

Tconnor...

both the 4 and b keys type b4? that's odd behaviour,

i'm not sure if your keyboard is the laptop keypad or if it's an external one...

if it's a wireless external keyboard, it could be the batteries, as chichner suggested... if that doesn't help, is it possible for you to try another one, or try yours in another computer to see what happens.

if it's your laptop keypad, it's possible that somehow some moisture or even just a drop of liquid got in there, in which case you'd need to carefully remove the keypad and clean underneath it... again, carefully... look at your manual for how to remove the keypad if this is the case.

for either the laptop or external keboards, you may want to try to re-install the drivers... but..

there's something else that can cause weird behaviour like this, and that, unfortuantely, would be a virus.

do you have any anti-virus programs installed? try to run a scan on your entire computer (if you use any external drives, including usb pens, scan those as well.)

i hope this is helpful, if you have any more questions, just ask, and add any otehr information about your keyboard, computer operating system, anti-virus program that you can think of.

    tconnor...

one more thing, a very simple thing.... before you go through the trouble of all the rest of the complicated post i wrote...

do you have your numlock on? press the fn key and the numlock key to see if your goes on and off... you can tell if it's on when any of these keys: m-j-k-l-u-i-o-p-; type numbers. if that doesn't change, it may be that your function (fn) key is stuck.

If you note which keys type double characters you can use the backspace key to backup one character as a work around, but it sounds like you may need to replace it. If it is wireless, try new batteries first and also try another keyboard if you can borrow one.

Hi doronzl,
As soon as you turn the computer ON press and Holding down the FN key+the Num lock key, if this does not work uninstall all Lenovo programs such as ooVoo, IDvault, Lenovo Easy Share, Lenovo Guarded ID, and also uninstall Lenovo Readycom, FYI after uninstall Lenovo Readycom it will restart your computer, that is OK. OH yeah try uninstall the Lenovo Smile Dock as well if you have that it will only give you a smiley face on your desktop and nothing else.
You do not need to uninstall Lenovo Veriface if you have that, No need to uninstall Lenovo Easy Camera or Lenovo Cam suite which ever you have, No need to uninstall Energy Management.
If still the issue is the same I suggest that you restore that machine back to factory defaults to see if the issue will still be the same if it will be the same then this is going to be a keyboard problem and needs replacing.
I hope this Helps.
Have a nice day,

Try a different keyboard, if a different keyboard works properly then your original one is defective. If another keybaord does the same thing then its a setting in the operating system for the keyboard that needs to be changed.

Possibly your keyboard settings are too sensitive. Go to your Control Panel and click on Keyboard. There you can adjust your settings to decrease the sensitivity of the keys.

Asus X58Cseries with Windows Vista Basic has $ sign on 4 key but no pound sign. Any way of getting it? If not, I can live with it but would like to know either way.Cheers, Linda.

I'm an Asus X58C user in the UK and my keyboard is the same. I've not found an easy solution. The only way I can insert a £ character is this. Place your coursor where you want the character. Turn Numbers Lock on using the blue Fn and NumLk keys. Hold down the Alt key and then using the blue numbers keys type 0163. Release the Alt key and the £ character will appear. Turn Numbers Lock off using the blue Fn and NumLk keys again. Its laborious but it works, its how I typed it here. I also found out that if you hold down Ctrl and Alt and then press the 4 key, you type the euro character €. Hope this helps

I had the same problem. When I pressed shift and that comma key I got a " instead of a @.

I looked to see what on the leyboard you normally press to get a " and that's the number 2 key.

Tried pressing shift and the 2 key and hey presto, I got a @.

So it looks like @ and " have swapped places.

So shift and 2 for a @!

XPS One Keyboard's Characters not functioning

Try to re-sync the keyboard to the computer. Here’s the procedure:
1) Turn the computer on.
2) Turn on the keyboard
3) Press the sync button on the rear of your computer’s left speaker.
4) Press the sync button on the keyboard. ( I believe it’s on the bottom of keyboard)

The sync button has a symbol next to it, (2 arrows going in clockwise direction).
Ensure that the keyboard battery has not run low.

If that doesn’t work, look for a Bluetooth icon in the lower right hand corner of your desktop and double click on it to open the Bluetooth configuration utility. See if there’s a configuration file for the keyboard. If there is, delete it and then re-detect Bluetooth devices.
Hope this helps.
