Loud noise when I start the vacuum in carpet position

When the vacuum is turned in the carpet position a loud noise starts like you have sucked up an area rug. There is nothing stuck in the roller brush. Does the brush need to be replaced?
Thank you I have this same problem. I opened the bottom one day to clean and after Hubby put bottom plate back on this screeching sound starts all of a sudden on carpet mode. Hubby called Dyson and they said take it to the shop. We did and spent over 100.00 to have it fixed only to get it home and have the same problem happen. Have taken it back and they insist that they replaced the clutch but it still happens. the problem is that on solid floor mode it does not make sound but does not pick up dog hair...help...

I have the same problem. I just got mine in December. It is great on hardwood, but as soon as I move it to carpet it makes a horrible noise. I have cleaned it out but is still does it.

Sounds like a slipping clutch to me. When we turn the knob to turn on the rug beater brush a loud buzzing noise is heard and the brush moves erratically. Sound like a tripped grat or something.

I have had the vacuum do the same thing. It started all of the sudden. I turned it off, cleaned it out. It sounds like it sucked up a rug - the more I checked out the noise, it seems like it is coming from right behind where the belt is - like it's catching on something!

It's most likely the Belt Slip Protection Dyson uses to prevent the user from having to replace belts. I recently bought a Dyson and love it other than it literally sits there and makes horrible noises 80% of the time. I completely disassembled the vacuum and found that the spring they used for this belt slip protection is WAY too weak. The weak spring seems to let the belt slip protection pop off way too frequently and unnecessarily. I stretched the spring back out and whammy no more horrible clanking. Of course it'll take you a couple of hours, some good tools and some serious ingenuity to get to where the parts are but problem solved. It'll still ratchet when picking up a sock or dog toy or something, but sitting there ratcheting on short dense carpet is unacceptable. Hope this helps!!!

Clutch is fine problem is most likely a bad beater bar housing have had too replace a quite a few of them because where the roller sits in the housing the groove is messed up

Squeeling noise dyson 33

Is it when you go from carpet to floor or floor to carpet? It will make a loud noise detecting a possible suction issue. I've also had loud noises and turned over the vacuum and where the brush is, traps hair, thread, rubber bands, etc. Just take a scissor and cut it all out. Don't cut the bristles. Roll the brush as you cut and pull all the stuff wrapped around the brush. Once it is free, try it again.

Dyson dc24 - just tried to use after being in storage, making loud noise and seems to be blowing out rather than in. Maybe a part missing? The hole at the top of the bin attachment is sucking air...

The wand attachment at the top is supposed to only suck in when it\'s in the upright position, otherwise the suction should be used when the vacuum in rolled on the carpet/wood/surface.

If it\'s still under warranty, contact Dyson directly. This site may help: dyson.com/support.aspx

I hope that helps.

The carpet attachment is turning but not sucking.

Check the clips that attach the hose to the front of the Rainbow. If one is broken, then it will leak air and reduce performance.

I need to change my sweeper belt on my Dyson 14 Animal

When turned on and set to sweep the sweeper makes a loud noise like it has something stuck in it but the brush is turning abut not does not have a lot of sucking power. It started the other day when a blanket with tassels got caught and wund up in the brush and sucked up in the sweeper a bit. Tried to pull out while running and came out but made the loud noise. If I take off the brush then it does not make the noise when on. I think it might be the belt grooves are worn and slipping when the sweeper is in the sweeping on mode. Sorry, do not know the technical sweeper terms.

When in carpet mode, brushes seem to be hitting something. Brushes cleaned - how to stop making the awful noise

LOL do you mean when you move the vacuum forward (say into a baseboard)? it makes the loud shocking noise.. i hate that too.. but that's the crazy Warning sound indicating something is stuck (like you sucked up an area rug) or you have run into something and it set off a sensor.

Very loud click/catching noise - Dyson DC07Allergy

Take the sole plate off the brush bar (with a coin or a screw driver)compartment and check for blockages near the brush bar and make sure the brush bar spins round freely.
Its sounds like the clutch is slipping (it does this to protect it self from burning out when something is stopping the brush bar from turning)
A quick test is when in upright position turn the brush bar knob to off
(usally in drive postion) then try the user position again - the brush bar should not be turning and they should be no noise

Loud noise when I start the vacuum in carpet position

Not exactly a solution, but more of an explanation. The noise is caused by a ratchet device that's designed to protect the belt if the brush roller becomes blocked. It's a bit like a clutch that slips when resistance on the brush gets too great. The noise will occur if there's a solid blockage, of course, but it will also occur whenever the machine senses excessive resistance. This may happen on carpets with really thick pile, but can also happen if the carpet is loosely fitted and can be sucked up tight to the roller by the force of the vacuum.
Small consolation, but the problem should lessen as the brush wears. Meanwhile, if all else fails, switch the brush off (hard floors mode) while vacuuming the problem carpet(s).
