Hi!

It is due to multiple reasons, compressor and relay of the compressor being the most common. Is the fan working?

    Can you hear rattling or vibrating noise? If not then replace the PTC relay at the back of the fridge which is placed next to the compressor(held on with a metal clip).

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described condition indicates an electromechanical device activating and thereafter shutting down. After a preset period it engages again and goes through the routine. Almost always, this would be a relay that serves as a switch to engage a component such as the compressor, fan/blower or defrost heater. Course of action would involve checking/replacing:

  • compressor;
  • compressor relay
  • compressor overload protector;
  • fan/blower;
  • defrost system; and/or
  • controller board.
Except for the last, all could be tested using a DVM/VOM either checking for continuity/resistance and/or the presence/absence of supply voltage.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

The clicking sound is your relay trying to send a signal to your compressor to start. REplace the relay which is on the back of the fridge and away you go. Located next to the compressor square box with 4 wires attached to it. Good luck and thank you for using FIXYA.com

Where is the reset button on the refridgerator ice makers.

4X??????? Hard to fathom you got 4 bad units in a row.

Check internal freezer temp. If not less than 10 degrees the thermostat inside the ice maker will not allow the unit to cycle and make ice. The issue could be with your refrigerator and not the ice maker.

Frig seems to be getting no power, not a issue with the outlet. Frig is 8 months old. Is there a reset button somewhere?

You can try unplugging the unit for a few minutes then plug back in. however what u may really want to check is the compressor relay and capacitor. Due u hear a clicking sound down there? feel the compressor vibrating? if the relay is out it will not start and u can buy what is called a 3 in 1 hardstart kit. not that expensive or hard to install, but first I would have the cold control thermostat checked as it may be out and thus no power. U can check it by placing a small screwdriver under it and into the tiny hole located on it. thermostat is usually found inside fridge on top at center, bout 3 inches long and wide. turn the screwdriver slowly till u hear a click then another click and that should turn off the defrost and start the fan and compressor? if it starts u know ur timer is bad

The freezer is not cold enough and won't respond to resetting, does not make ice, does not dispense water

Your unit probably needs re-gassing, unless there is excessive ice build up around the thermostat, which would insulate it. If the compressor is cutting in and out and the temperature is still too high, it could also be the thermostat that is busy failing.

Refrigerator stoped cooling

Ok, if the unit compressor will not run and just clicks on and then off, this will confirm a low charge state ad you will need to recharge this unit. the refrigerant level is low.

Purchasing a recharge kit and recharging the system will fix this issue.

Accidental defrost

I did the same thing. I know it's a little late now but for anyone that does this again here's what to do. There's a thermostat in your actual freezer you might not be able to see it, because it might be covered in ice. It looks like a tiny tube, To stop the defrosting all you have to do is warm up the thermostat either pressing a hot towel agaisnt it or meltling the ice with a dryer (but be careful)! After a minute or so the red button should pop out again and the refrigerator will start humming again. Unplugging the refrigerator will not reset anything and don't try to pop the red button out of your own!

After cleaning coils and in back of fridge, it appears that the defrost keeps cycling every 5 minutes

hi
Step 1:
 If the compressor runs all the time, turn the control knob to the OFF position. If the compressor still runs, unplug the unit, then pull off the control knob and remove the screws holding the thermostat in place. Pull out the thermostat and remove either the red or the blue wire from its terminal. Plug in the unit. If the compressor doesn't run, the thermostat is faulty. Replace it with a new thermostat.

Step 2:
If the compressor runs after the wire is removed from its terminal, there is probably a short circuit somewhere in the unit's wiring. In this case, don't try to fix the problem yourself; call a professional service person.

Step 3:
If the refrigerator or freezer runs but the box doesn't cool, unplug the unit and remove the thermostat with a screwdriver. Disconnect both wires from the thermostat. Tape the ends of the wires together with electrical tape, and plug in the appliance. If the refrigerator starts and runs normally, the thermostat is faulty. Replace it with a new one of the same type. Connect the new thermostat the same way the old one was connected.

Step 4:
If the freezer compartment is normal but the refrigerator box doesn't cool, set the dials that control both compartments to mid-range. Remove these knobs (they're usually friction-fit). Then unscrew the temperature control housing; you'll see an air duct near the control. Replace the knob on the freezer thermostat and turn the control to the OFF position. Open the refrigerator door and look closely at the air duct. If this duct doesn't open wider in about ten minutes, the control is faulty. Replace the control with a new one of the same type. Connect the new control the same way the old one was connected.

Ge profile refrigerator won't run

Where is the click sound coming from. There is no fuse in the unit. If light comes on you have power. If it is a frost free refrigerator it will not come on if the defrost timer is in the defrost position. There is no reset button. Did you wait about 20 minutes to see if it would come on by its self?
