Yes when in use. It seems to do it more often if not on ac power. After it turns itself off, it will turn off at startup several times before it will start up completely. It seems to power off when the cpu fan starts.

Your best hope is that the CPU heatsink is dusty and the CPU is overheating and therefore shutting of for thermal protection.
Try to clean it deeply with canned air caring not to short the fan speed sensing with the condense caused by the expanding air(do not hold the nozzle too close to the fan).
If it keeps doing it, then it's probably because of the motherboard's voltage regulator and you need to replace the motherboard or at least the voltage regulator if it is not on-board(usually it is onboard.)

Check the cooling fan and the air inlet screen for blockage. You may need to clean the cooling fan and the fins on the heat pipe.

EMachines eMD620 suddenly shutdown and not boot anymore

When this happened was the laptop overly hot? If the laptop's head got too high it could have shutdown to protect itself. It wouldn't boot until the heat had disparate. Sit you laptop aside for about 30 minutes and see if it will boot then. If it does you might want to check out a cool mat.

My Dimension 5000 shows the starting message : to avoid complete loss of your files and data , Windows has chosen to turn off the system ; I've restarted "no chess proceeding" , still off !...

It sounds like your machine is turning itself off to protect it from overheating. My guess would be that the cooling fan is blocked or very dirty. Try cleaning the cooling fan (if you can get to it), as well as the exit fins (sometimes simply blowing down the area where the hot air comes out of the machine is enough).

Hi

Sounds like the fan is either blocked or not functioning correctly. Advise you take to a good computer shop before further damage is done.

HP Pavilion zv5000 Turns off every 10 mins and restarts itself?

When the computer is on try using that computer cleaner compressed air that comes in the can on the fan that is not working. If you hit it with the compressed air and get the fan to spin and then it starts to spin on it's own the fan could be sticking. This will cause overheating and the computer could shut down like it's doing. Also does it do it when the battery is on or a/c power or both?

When my Acer 5735 overheats it turns itself off, how can I stop it overheating and turning off?

Hmmm, Dont let it heat up. :-)

If there is some setting in BIOS to speed up the fan then its good, speed it up.

If not then place it on such a place from where your colling fan is "NOT" covered with anything.
Usually when the machine is in your lap, we accidently block the air flow path, and the machine starts to heat-up.
It has happened to me also.
