Question about Tomtom GPS Devices

My Tomtom worked for a while then stopped working.

The green light still comes on. The screen remains dark at home plugged into my PC and in the car.

The same thing happened to mine, TomTom was great about it. They sent me a replacement actually it wasn't until I received the 5th replacement that I got one that works right.) Everyone I've talked to @ the company has always been eager to make it right. BTW, now my TomTom works great, had it for 2 years now & wouldn't think of buying a different brand. when you plug it into the pc ,is the pc recognising that its a tomtom? If it is then try updating it again with tomtom home

It will do that, diconnect your unit and try switching it on, have you downloaded tomtom home 2 to your computer? as you need this to manage your unit.

Green light is on when plugged into car cigarette lighter but cannot switch it on and the screen remains black


hook it up to the usb cable to your computer for a few hours (but not more then 4 hours) then press and hold the power button for up to 15 seconds.

once you get it started, hook it up to tomtom home and see if it has the latest updates.

Our tomtom one 3rd edition stopped working it will not switch on or charge up even th ough green light comes on charger when plugged into car


try resetting it, but first put it on the charger for a few hours to make sure its charged. using a paper clip or something similar, depress and hold the reset button located on the bottom of the unit for 15 seconds, then hold the power button for up to 5 seconds till the unit starts.

if that fails, hook your tomtom to your computer and run tomtom home and see if that will update or repair it.

If the green light does not even come on when you plug in the charger you must have an issue with the logic board. Did the GPS get wet or did it drop, was there anything else the preceded the moment it stopped working? There is a company that sells GPS logic boards for TomToms : GPS Repair

GPS Won't Turn On


I suggest any unit under warranty to be returned to its supplier or if they will not help, contact tomtom directly!

Will not charge


I have a similar problem and I think I solved it (orr found a way to work around it). It looks like the contacts are not connecting firmly so even though the green light may be on, the charging conneciton is not made. With the tomtom on your home dock from the front page on your tomtom, touch near the lower right of the screen on the satellite strength indicator, this should bring up a screen where it shows (among other things) your batter status at the top right. If it is charging, the word charging will be under the battery strength indicator. Just play with it until you get the word "charging" to appear under the picture of the battery.then HANDS OFF until it is charged. I doubt this will be successful with the car charger since the movement of the car will likely jar the connection loose. Good luck.

PC does not recognise TomTom


Dont use a HUB, connect it directly to the PC.

Reset the unit by pushing a bent paperclip or pin into the hole on the bottom marked 'reset' turn it back on, plug it in & charge it via USB overnight or as long as you can in the car, make sure the led on the top is green, tap the bottom right of the screen & check the battery symbol on the unit says charging underneath.

If this doesn't help.
