After loading personal settings computer stops working

When I boot up my computer (Dell 4600C) it goes through the normal process and then displays the profiles we have on the system. When I choose one of the profiles to work under it states "loading personal profiles" and then the screen saver background comes up but that is it. There are no icons being displayed nor a menu bar at the bottom of the the screen. I can't get to any of the menus (control panel, programs, etc, etc). Any idea what is going on with my computer?

Yes it is happening with all profiles. I tried botting up in the safe mode and it didn't get me to the start menu. Appreciate the input, any other ideas...

I attempted to reboot using the safe mode so that I could restore but even after using the F8 key and rebooting in the safe mode it went to the user icons and did not provide the programs to get to the restore option. Any ideas?

Hit control-alt-delete, then bring up the "file " menu, and look for a "new task" or "run" command.

at the "run" command, type "explorer"

The most probable reason is a virus infection that has corrupted the "Explorer.exe"... Try booting form a different profile n see if it helps... If it doesn't then this is what you need to do... Start up the system n immediately start tapping F8 key... this brings up a menu from which select the safe mode... after booting in the safe mode u'll see the windows albeit a toned down one... then go to start>all programs>accesories>system tools>system restore... this brings up the restore window.. go ahead n restore ur PC to an earlier time when the system was working well... it's a simple procedure but here is the tricy part... if this does resolve ur issue the infection would still be there so for that u need to do a virus scan... if u already have a antivirus installed you need to update the software n then run the scan n if u dont have one installed download a free one from the link i'm providing... update that too n scan ur system...

Lemme know how it goes mate :-)

My del studio laptop doesn't shut down

You could have a corruption in the script or a process that won't stop. Try holding down on the power button until the screen goes dark and all lights go out. That is a hard shut down without saving settings. After it shuts down (finally) power it back up. Hit the F8 key on your keyboard the moment your machine goes to the black screen before it can load windows. That is the safe mode. Move the highlight up to safe mode or safe mode with networking and allow it to continue to boot up. Then, when it's completed the process and windows displays that it is in safe mode, do a normal restart. That should resolve the issue.

I'm running XP on my Inspiron 6000. It's had problems booting when several USB devices are attached (mouse, camera, keyboard, etc). Lately it will not display the windows menu after goes...

Hi. When you get to the point of having the Task Manager open, click on "New Task" and ty this in : explorer.exe

After which, press enter and see if the start menu comes up. Also try this in safe mode if it does not work in normal mode.

If it also fails in safe mode, that means your Windows is badly corrupted and the only way to get back to normal is to reformat the computer. Cheers!

Dell 4600C desktop. I cannot get it to boot. I have tried all combinations of cd or usb sequences without success. It appears the cd drive is not recognized. This started after using windows to remove...

I will assume your saying it wont recognise the HDD not the CD drive? If so the cleanup has removed the drive info from it. Whet i would is take that HDD out and plug into another PC as a secondary HDD and it should auto repair it. Ive done this dozens of times with loads of luck. But nothings guaranteed with computers. Black Screen Dell 600 Laptop

The display drivers maybe corrupt.

Boot the machine into safe mode. Right click on My Computer (XP) Computer (Vista) and select manage from the sub menu.
When the window pops up select Device Manager.
A device list will populate. When it has look down the list for Display Adapters. Click on the + icon next to Display Adapters to it expands. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and let it boot in normal mode.
If it boots in normal mode let it detect the Display and install the drivers for it.
I would be a good idea to update the display drivers via the Dell support website.

If it still won't display in normal mode please post back.

Good luck.

Video screen will not display after pc goes thru it start up sequence. But during start up process will display window welcome page

Try restarting the computer in safe mode and when it boots, see if the screen is visible. If it is then there is an incompatible screen resolution that is trying to be displayed in normal mode. Set the default screen resolution to one that you know works with the adapter....usually 800 X 600 is safe until you get a normal boot. If you have video during the booting process than I do not believe it to be a hardware problem, usually windows driver or a setting.

4600c not operating system error message bootmanager missing

You might have to go to the BIOS of your computer to ensure your drive is recognised. Once it shows there, make sure you change the Drive as your first boot device.

My Dell 4600C, when turned on only shows a picture for 1-2 seconds then goes black. The computer is running, but there is no picture. Do I need a new video card?

I think you are on the right track...but I would download and reinstall the drivers first ...Do you in fact have a video card for sure? And you probably also have integrated video as well. (precluding you from have to purchase a new one unless you are a gamer) Anyway here are the drivers for both possibilities:

Canon MF 4350d Wont install

Almost the exact same problem. New 4350d Canon printer trying to connect it with Dell 8300 with XP. The computer says it does not recognize. Tried everything - reinstall drivers, download drivers, tried every USB port, swapped cables, spoke with Canon support and finally took the printer back and got a new one (Canon support person decided the USB board must be bad). New machine - same old problem.

Did you recently change or install a program that would affect the resolution and card output? Try booting into safe mode by holding the "shift" key during boot. From there right-click on the desktop and hit 'properties'-> 'display properties' -> 'settings' , check your resolution and drop it to 800x600 and then reboot. If everything goes back in normally make sure you have the right windows drivers for your video card. You can also check the driver version and settings while you're in safe mode. Sometimes the windows update drivers can act screwy and I would recommend getting them directly from your card manufacturer.
