Swapped hard drive into new casw and now it wont boot up

Had a pc with an ECS 848p-a motherboard P4 that worked fine but it didn't have a hard drive (I removed it and never replaced it)..... my inlaws have a pc that is a P3, so I thought I would just swap their 160 mb Maxtor hard drive into the P4..... well, when I did this, everything boot up normally but then I get a blue error screen that says ---

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

if this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, restar your computer. if this screen appears agin, follow these steps:

check for viruses on your computer. remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. run chkdsk /f for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

technical information:
***STOP: 0x0000007B (0XF9E48528, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

If I reinstall the hard drive into the old P3 computer the hard drive boots right up..... I thought this would be an easy swap as the P4 worked fine before I removed the hard drive..... any suggestions

This is due to a hardware conflict.
The system drivers on the hard drive are for the old mother board and devices,You will have to reinstall OS while it is install on the new mother board,The computer cannot boot to a drive that is loaded to another system unless all the devices and drive are identical.

Please rate this a fixya

If you have another hard drive to boot from,You can hook the new drive up as a slave and once the computer boots to the first drive,go to my computer and you will see the new drive has been added,You can then copy the boot.ini and boot.inf files from the first drive to the new drive.(Don't delete the originals on the new drive,Just rename them to boot1.ini and boot1.inf )

If you don't have another hard drive to boot from,You can boot from a recovery disk or OS disk.

To repair a damaged Boot Sector from a recover or OS disk, boot to the recovery console and at the command prompt type FIXBOOT and press Enter. Then answer "Y"

Are the 2 machine from the same maufacturer?
if you are trying to install a hard drive from one machine to another with different manufacturer, that is the error you will get. this is because of the hardware difference.
P4 with 160MB hard drive? what are you runing? terminal server?

Hello samanozy ,
Some older motherboards will not support a too wide HDD whatever the interface.
Another point is to know if you have set the boot priorities in the BIOS . Your machine is maybe attempting to boot from the Sata drive .
Best regards ,
fanaudi .

848P-A7 motherboard will not boot. Had for years

This motherboard came out about the time when the bad cap's started being put in boards in China. You might want to look a some of the caps.
on the motherboard to see if any of them look bad. A lot of the motherboards I replace have had them . This is one of the symptoms of a bad cap. You might want to check out Bad caps.net for more on this.
I don't know how familar you are with electronics but in case you need to know a cap is the thing on the board that looks like a tin can. If you see any brown stuff comming out of the top or bottom ,or if the top looks puffed up that cap is bad,and you have just found your problem. The motherboard can be repaired or replaced.

Problem booting into Windows.

Hi,
This could be a hard drive problem. The hard drive is looking for the boot sector on it, but the boot sector is broken. Computer shuts down and tries again but your hard drive can't find the boot sector so it shuts down tries again etc.

Just installed new mobo (ecs 6100sm-m) and boot up issue

from my experience, you will need to format when changing the hardware you have changed. are there files on the drive that you need? if so id recommend putting your old motherboard back in to backup the drive then rebuild and format. thats if it wasnt faulty to start off with.

hope it helps

848p-A7 motherboard Intel P4 Processor, system doesn't boot when swiched on

dude.. your problem may have different root causes..
in general what you want to do is the following:
1. make sure everything is seated properly and test
2. make sure your memory sticks are compatible to *********** board, installed in the right slot(s) and test again
3. make sure your power supply is working properly and power plugs are properly seated (use it in another systme or teste it with ps tester and test again

do you hear a series of beeps?, is there any video going to the screen? any errors??

uninstalled any new hardware you had and leave the system with the minimum to work. motherboard, video card (use onboard), sound card (use onboard) network card (use only onboard if any), mouse, keyboard. and test.

things to try before blaming the motherboard or the processor is to read check for bios updates or confim you're using compatible hardware for your mb, here's the link for the manual, drivers, updates from the manufactorer for your motherboard..

good luck.. post more details of your problem if you need follow up

Pc wont boot up

Simple test to see what could be wrong
remove everything from M/board except for 1 stick of memory and video card or leave it on on board video.
If it boots then one of your other units you removed is fitted wrong replace one at a time testing each time until you find the one fitted wrongly and check it
remeember the hard drive and CD if on same cable should be set to
Hard drive = Master
CD =slave
And the stripe should be toward No1 pin on M/board socket and to the 4 pin power plug on hard drive
