After my Dvd stopped working I looked up the drivers. I even bought 'Driver Dective' to fix it. No go, because it's a system driver not a hardware, I guess. So I went to the emachines site, and tried to download a new driver. I was informed that my driver is the most updated. However, now I can't even find my dvd drive on 'My computer'. I've tried everything, I'm going out of my mind! I even bought a new dvd/cd writer, still... it doesn't work and I'm out 60.00. Can anyone help?

    Thank you.

I copied some pictures to a cd and the cd ejected when it was done...i put it back in to check it and now i cant get it to open and i cant find anywhere that shows the drive exsist...i tried it again and...

It sounds like something is wrong with the CD you burned. Take a paperclip and straighten it out. Open the CD rom cover flap if there is one covering it. There will be a small hole in the cd drive under the CD tray. Stick the paper clip in and push. This will release the tray. Pull the tray out manually and remove the cd, then push the tray back in gently and reboot your computer.

I downloaded " cd burner

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
hope this helps
if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

hope this helps

My cd burner will not burn cd's. it just makes a funny sound and pops up insert disc.

If the system is not in warantee, you will need to replace the CD burner drive. You can generally find a replacement for around $30. Depending on where you live you can find one locally or online.
Replacement is very easy.
Open the system to access the old CD burner, make sure you take note of where the cables (power and interface cable). Remove the old CD burner and replace it with the new CD burner replacing the power and interface cable.
If I were you, I would op for a CD/DVD burner so that you can read and write both CD;s and DVD's. Cost should be around $40.

Help with copying cds keeps saying that I have wrong format

the machine (pc or cd burner) that you are using is looking for a specific type (either cd-r / cd+r)
look on the front of the pc or cd burner to find what type it uses.
cd + r, cd + rw, cd - r, cd - rw or cd-rom. (+/-) r are for one time burning, (+/-) rw is for rewriting over and over and the rom is for games (playstation).......the + (plus) or - (minus) is very important.

feel free to rate if this is helpful

Cant' open or even FIND the CD Rom disk thing where you put the .

Not trying to insult your intelligence, but let me ask this? Do you know if your CD, or DVD drive is a burner drive, first of all?
Generally on the outside of the drive unit, it will have CD-R/RW for a CD burner, and DVD-R/RW for a DVD burner. (Read-Read/Write. It will Read from a disk, and also write back to it)

You can also check the Device Manager, and see how this drive, or if you have more than one, both drives are listed.

Left-click on Start>Right-click on My Computer>Left-click on Properties>Left-click on the Hardware tab, then go down, and Left-click on Device Manager.
Give Device Manager a second or so, to load.

Now Left-click on the -> + sign next to CD/DVD-ROM drives. If your optical drive is a burner drive, it will have RW in the name.

If you know the optical drive in question, (If you have more than one optical drive, be sure your blank CD-R disk is in the burner drive), is indeed a burner drive, let's go on.

Download the school picture to your My Pictures folder. By default it should go there. Then go to My Pictures, (Start>My Pictures), and find the photo.
Left-click on the photo. There will now be a blue frame around it. Go up to the top left side, and left-click on -> Copy to CD.

CD/DVD drive stuck CLOSED and NO pin hole

Use my computer and select the drive (eg drive E:). From pull down menu "File" select "eject". While the disk door attempts to open (hear slight movement of tray) massage the door with your fingers. This is done by smoothing out the across front door panel with your finger tips and pushing in and releasing pressure from door. Door should slide open partially and close again. Repeat. The eject button nearside the disc tray doesn't seem to work as well as selecting "File" and "Eject" from the menu. Something to do with the door cycle is less with the direct eject button.

Dvd drive on dell computer

If you have not recently added any software or did any other changes to your system, try this first. Shut down your computer and open the side panel with a Phillips screw driver. Look for the connectors for the drive and power main (the small one). Unplug them both and reconnect them and make sure that they are firmly in place. If this fails, your burner does not work and needs replacing 6a6a5ed.jpg

CD ROM Drive doesn't read CDs!

These compact CD drives break more easily than standard desktop drives. Your drive will probably need to be replaced. First I would try removing and re-inserting the drive (maybe even a few times) There is probably one screw or a slide switch under the laptop to allow the CD drive to be removed. IF that does not help, have you cleaned the lens? You have easy access to the lens when the drive is open. If you have any camera lens cleaning equipment use that, if not 91% rubbing alcohol and a q-tip will work. Just don't rub too much or apply much pressure at all. Just lightly sweep away any dust. If none of the above work I would look for a replacement. The CD burner or DVD burner drives are typically more reliable and last longer.
