There are no specific specs other than "eyeballing" it. Make sure the bottom blad is level with the plate of the machine. The upper cutter should meet and overlap slightly. It is usually a trial and error thing to get it aligned. Good luck.

I had the same problem and thought I had to replace the blades. What I really needed to do was to adjust the lever on the right side of the machine to the thickest fabric level. This is one possible solution.

Pushing material away, but still overlocking

It is difficult to tell what exactly is happening with your serger.

First thing--make sure you RAISE the presser foot BEFORE you thread any of the threads. This releases the tension disks so the threads will seat properly. You may need to remove all the threads and rethread from the beginning, making sure you thread each in the proper order. Start out with the thread tensions set at the ideal setting--usually the halfway point between the high & low numbers. From there, you will adjust them to even up the thread tensions.

Are you actually trimming off some of the fabric as it is stitching? If so, you might try increasing the cutting width (moves the cutting edge further toward the right) so that there is more fabric caught within the looper threads. It also appears that the looper tensions may be too loose. Try tightening the upper and lower looper tensions so less of the thread loops don't fall off the fabric's raw edge.

Do I have to have the cutting blades on the machine to serge material? Also, what's rolled hem and whats overlock?

No you do not need the cutting blade to serge but you shouldn't have to remove the blade it you should be able to push the knob at base of blade inward or pull it outward to turn blade downward out of the way.

How do I adjust the seam allowance to cut 1/4 inch

Hello
To the right of the cutter, on the front cover, there are markings indicating various seam allowances. Placing the fabric edge along the specific seam allowance will automatically cut off the required amount of fabric and the serged seam will be on the seam line. Do a test sample first to ensure that the marked lines refer to the left needle or to the single needle that you are using.
Yes, there is a blade position dial too. It is located closest to you on the left side on the bottom. The larger the number, the wider the seam. Again make a few test samples to ensure the results that you are seeking.
Happy stitching.

Huskylock 910 starts to serge normal and then begins to take extra thread and make a mess. what can I do to fix this?

try changing the needles
make sure the serger is threaded correctly
check for any burrs in the needle plate area, or on the loopers
also make sure the tension is adjusted correctly for the fabric

I have a Husqvarna serger and when I try to serge and cut through 3 thicknesses of sweatshirt fleece it won't cut. I have replaced the cutter and it still won't cut. The same happens when I sew on polar...

I really need to know what kind of serger you have , if it is the 905 910 or the 936 series take a look at the large headed screw that holds the knife in place. if you are doing fleece it will cause a lot of build up of lint behind this screw and not allow the knife to go all the way up and down causing it not to cut multi layers of fabric, and if this is the case it probably needs to go the an authorized tech for a thorough cleaning

Sewing thick fabric and machine won't send it through

Sergers are not really meant to sew very thick material. The blades have a maximum amount of range, or thickness that they can reach to cut. If you go outside that range, get ready for a big repair bill! You can break loopers and even the needle plate when you "push" a serger. My advise would be to use you sewing machine for the, "pounding" work. The type of material matters too, A thick Quilt like fabric can be sewn becatuse it's not dense material. A thinner harder denim could max out at 3 layers because of it"s hard finish. If the fabric you're sewing isn't dense like, you could just need new knives.

My simplicity serger SW432 wont cut

There are 2 blades, a fixed cutter and a moving cutter. The moving cutter should move approx 1/8" at it's lowest point past the fixed cutter. There should also be some pressure between the cutters

My viking serger 905 wont cut

Sometimes the blades need to be adjusted. Lower them all the way manually to the bottom. The cutters if you look on the side should meet. If they don't' meet or if there is a small space then the upper cutter needs to be lowered.
There are screws that hold this in place. You might need a man to help since the screws on my machine are very tight!
