Question about Audio & Video Receivers

Stremium sound system wac700/05 system will not play from hard drive and will not play from a CD. It will play from external source. IE MP3. I have tried switching off power and repowering with the OK button depressed as advised by telephone help line. This does not solve the problem.

    here is a procedure to update the firmware without the center if you follow these instructions closely:

    - download the new firmware from Philips website
    - unzip the file, and rename it to was7000_update.bin . I believe the file was labeled wrongly as wac7000_update.bin
    - move your station to within sight of your PC (it is a lot easier to see what is going on)
    - fire up your favorite browser (IE, firefox, safari) and point it to the station IP address (eg: 192.168.1.210)
    - Select Firmware Upgrade and click on the UPGRADE button
    - The station will reboot immediately and display
    Waiting For Firmware
    - Count to 5 seconds (if station is connected via LAN, and 15 seconds if connected via Wifi), erase the URL on your browser and enter the IP address again (DO NOT USE THE REFRESH BUTTON ON YOUR BROWSER)
    - You should see the station configuration screen again
    - Click on Firmware Upgrade and the Upgrade button again
    - The browser screen should now change to a file selection screen. Select the firmware update file (was7000_update.bin) and click ok and Apply. You have to finish this step within 30 seconds or you have to start all over again
    - Browser will now send the image to the station.. it will take about 20 seconds.... DO NOT PRESS STOP, CHANGE URL, TOUCH THE STATION, MOVE THE PC OR BREATHE AT THIS POINT
    - In about a minute, the station screen will change text and an update progress number.
    - When that is done, it will reboot, and you will have the new firmware in the station

How do I hook up an external hard drive with videos on it to my receiver for video play back the usb input on front only will play back audio

Most receivers are designed to play most audio codecs. They will play MP3/CDA/FLAC/WMA and others. Most are not capable of reading and playing the various video codecs out there.

Your system was an old carousel type CD changer. They do not make them anymore. The whole world is moving towards compact storage devices ( Hard disk / Flash drives ) and steering away from media like CD's , DVD's etc. Thanks to the internet, almost everything is available at your fingertips.
Today your system would be worth less than half of what you paid. In fact for half the amount you could pick up something similar with only one CD tray, but with a USB port for playing MP3 / Video files.
Check out this Sony 5 cd player for $450/-

How do I link my technics ge 70 graphic equaliser to my technics cd player sl-pd7a and my technics md player sj-md100 with phono rca leads . Thank you Simon

It would help to know what other electronics (receiver, maybe?) is involved.

If neither of those devices is a recorder, why do you need to connect them to the EQ when your receiver/preamp may have the facilities to connect the two playback devices directly; and the EQ in a Tape Loop?

Scenario A)

Assuming you REALLY want to have the CD and MD input through the EQ because you can't attach them any other way...

CD audio OUT to Line In; MD audio OUT to Playback;

EQ LINE OUT to whatever analog electronic inout you have in mind.

To hear and Equalize the CD set the Input Selector to Source, EQ REC button OFF; to hear the MD equalized set the Input Selector to Tape, EQ REC button OFF.

====

Scenario B:

You have a receiver with only ONE Line Level Aux input and a Tape Loop.

Insert the EQ in the Tape Loop. Attach one of the disc players to AUX and the other to the TAPE conenctions on the EQ.

====

Scenario C

You have a Home Theater System or Audio Vido Reciever.

The following is some boilerplate I made up that should explain some usage limitations.

Be advised that the engagement of any device in a Tape Monitor loop on a late-model Audio/Video Receiver will effectively tie the receiver down to stereo-only analog sound reproduction. I'll explain.

The connections themselves are fairly simple but it pays to understand what happens in the loop.

In general, any Line-Level external processor (EQ, dynamic range expander, etc) will go into a Tape Monitor loop on a receiver. A Tape Monitor, when engaged, sends the stereo analog signal Out to the Processor, massages it and returns it to the receiver via the Tape Monitor IN connectors to be passed on to the receiver's internal processes (volume, tone, whatever).

Old school analog stereo-only receivers consistently work this way. Newer digital and audio/video receivers introduce a couple of problems: 1) digital sound processing to simulate a variety of soundfields; 2) multiple output channels, either discrete or digitally-generated.

The latter requires that whatever signal is being processed experiences a maximum of one analog-digital-analog conversion.

EVERYTHING analog coming into the modern digital receiver is automatically converted to a digital signal for internal processing unless you choose a STEREO-only or STEREO-Direct setting. Consequently, no further external analog-digital conversions would be allowed if, say, a Tape Monitor circuit was activated, and a possible feedback loop could otherwise be created in a digital-sourced selection (output to its own input), so the unit is wired to treat the Tape Monitor as the first analog step in the process and defeats any pure digital sources.

In a multichannel unit, what would happen to the other channels if you sent ONLY the Front Left & Right out for processing? They would NOT be processed. That logical problem also plays into the decision to defeat digital sources if the Tape Monitor is activated. I don't totally agree with the engineers but that's the way it is. Nature of the digital beast.

Okay, back to the hook-up:

Receiver Tape Out (Rec) - to the External Processor (EQ, whatever) Preamp-, Rec, Line-In;

Receiver Tape In (Play) - from the External Processor (EQ, whatever) Preamp-, Play , Line-Out.

So, to sum up, you can only use the EQ or any outboard processor for analog stereo sources. If you actually want to use an analog recording deck you could place it within the typical Equalizer

Mp3 connect yamaha rx-v995 ---> muddy sound

Try getting into the configuration menu of the MP3 player and adjust the output controls for external devices....it sounds to me like it might be too high and/or the wrong output decoding.

Multiroom not playing from 'DVD' source

Each input re[resents a zone, not a device. If your are lookin to seup multizones, each output controls one zone, ie - 1 = living room, 2 = outside, 3 = garage, 4 = pool room. If you are using a multidevice unit, the inputs must all go to one connector, input 1 = stereo, 2 = tv, 3 = xbox, 4 = pa.

Let me know if this make sense. If you have the make of the unit I will be more precise for you. I install these everyday, so this is easy.

I have a panasonic SC-PT850 DVD home cinema system, and although it says it is DTS and Dolby 5.1 compatable but it does not give out any sound at all when i play Blueray films or Playstation 3 games which...

Not so much an answer more a shared problem with a slight insight. On the Panasonic manual page 40 http://www.panasonic.ae/EN/Manuals/SC-PT550%20-%20850W.pdf
It states the following: This unit can decode the surround signals received through cable TV box, digital broadcasting or satellite broadcasts. Refer to your equipment’s operating instructions for details. Only Dolby Digital and PCM can be played with this connection.
So it sounds like the SA-PT850 unit will decode DTS from an internal source ie DVD but not from an external source ie ps3 or WDTV which is a shame because I own a WDTV. The solution for me is to convert the dts to ac3 (Dolby digital) which works great. But not sure if this is an option for you.
