Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

1 Answer

40 watt night light bulbs constantly burn out short out.

I have a SpacemakerXL microwave oven, model JVM1443, & the 40 watt bulbs last about 2 months. All I have found are made in China. The last one to blow actually shorted out & tripped the breaker. It shorted out bad because there is a BURNED spot inside the area where the bulb goes. I thought it was the cheap bulbs but I do not know for sure.
Any help will be appreciated.

Is they are left on all the time, this can reduce their life, and they are more susceptible to vibration.

Have you checked at home center or home improvement centers like Lowe's, Builder's Square or Home Depot?

On stove bulbs what is the wattage I need to replace the two bulb's. Everytime I purchase bulbs they don't last long. LG microwave, model # lmvm2055st Thanks, Dave

There should be a sticker in the back that quotes this. 40 Watt is the highest you may go but....buy the 130volt brands as this is a higher rating for 120volt and it will not burn out as quick. Make sure it is an appliance bulb. Most hardware stores like ACE have them. Big Walmarts do too but check the package.

GE SpacemakerXL JVM1443 stays on when door is closed

That's almost certainly a failed primary interlock (upper door switch) or its mount is bad.

See our file on info on door switch diagnosis and replacement.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

mini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgf1b3b03.jpg

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

I have installed 2 new light bulbs in my GE Profile SpacemakerXL Microwave Oven, Model JVM1660, and now I can't get them to work. These lights are used as Cooktop and Night Lights. I can't find any fuses...

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

Surface and night light bulbs

If the model number you have this listed under is correct, the bulb you need is part #AP2029997, made by GE. You can also purchase these bulbs at any hardware store. They are the half sized small base, 40 watt bulbs. If you can't find 40 watt, make sure you use a lower wattage rating. If you have questions, or if the model number is incorrect, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
