Sony cfd-s01 boombox radio

Hi Bart,
You will find there is a specification plate on the rear of the unit.
It should have a rating on it showing the wattage of the unit. This is usually the amount needed to operate all the functions of the boombox.
The wattage is your input voltage multiplied by the current draw in amps. So the amperage is the rated wattage of the unit divided by the input voltage.
Usually all power goes through the transformer, so I would use this input amperage as a guide, and assuming there is no power loss, use the same calculation for the output - you know it is 9 volts, so the wattage going to the unit is the same as the input wattage, so you can calculate the amperage from this.
Transformers usually work on AC input/output, so there will also be a rectifier to convert the AC to DC for your boombox.
I would add 10 - 20% above your calculation to make sure you have sufficient power. Also I suggest that you install a fuse between your transformer and the boombox for safety.

Volume decreases during use

Very simple. It is not a defective unit. Simply a matter of volume attenuation, hold the "function" and "grove"keys for aprox 5 seconds until a message saying vac off appears. Problem solved. Resets itself eveytime the unit is turned off .
enjoy!!!

My Panasonic rx-d14 every so often when listening to the radio makes a fwupping sound through the speakers, this only lasts a few seconds but has me curious to what it is, the volume of the radio doesnt...

Sounds like local interference by nearby electronics. If it regularly makes this sound when used in an entirely different place, then I would begin to suspect an internal malfunction. Otherwise it could be a baby monitor, or police scanner, etc. Or something on the same circuit making electric noise. Try plugging it in a different room ( maybe you have done this already). Perhaps one of these is it. I hope so.

If you have a cassette tape in the Kaboom take it out close the casstte door and lock it. See if the problem continues. The cassette circuitry has been known to cause alot of prolems like yours. I think it has to do with sensors.

nothing should fall out , but not sure if that is going to be your remedy. if the sides are metel you might try fastening a strap with some self tapping(short) screws. that wont touch anything inside that will short out the unit

CD stuck in player

i would unplugged the unit. clean the buttons with alcohol on a cuetip and go around the buttons. if you do not have a cd open button you probably can open it up by pushing where it says open/push and it should open.

The CD starts to play and then stops and it makes a static noise. It is also random at the point at which it stops playing. Have tried multiple CDs.

I would try a dust cleaner can and spray inside to clean; also get a cd cleaner hopefully you can get one with brushes on it and see if that does the trick. you can even go to sony website and get answers.

Bass problem

You're getting some sort of capacitor discharge noise on your signal. There's no easy fix for that. It will have to be taken in for service.

Constant 'Err' and 'No Cd'

Hi,

Your post/description could be indicative of just that, your unit can no longer read the disc.
This could be brought about by:
1. dirty, dusty, smeared optical lens or the laser eye;
2. stuck lens carriage;
3. defective laser eye.

#1 could be corrected with the use of a CD cleaner commonly available at computer stores/shoppes. Alternately, you can use a fine, clean small brush;

#2 if visible on top could be cleaned with cotton buds and household alcohol. You need to re-lube when it has dried up;

Additionally, a can of compressed air would also be of help in removing any dust or foreign materials inside the disc mechanism.

#3 would require the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
