You don't need to change the port speed, the one that it is using is the correct setting. This allows for maximum burst speed for compressed data transfer.

Modem

Assuming that Windows has recognized the modem, and has loaded the correct device-drivers, Windows can use the modem.

You'll need to find an Internet Service Provider that provides "dial-up" service.

You'll need to have a land-line telephone (not a cell-phone) with your local telephone-company.

Connect a 4-wire cable (not an 8-wire Ethernet cable) from the "line" port on the modem to the telephone wall-jack.

Then, follow the instructions given you by your Internet Service Provider to configure your modem to connect to their dial-up server. Or, telphone them, and their Technical Support staff will guide you through the necessary configuration steps.

Does my new Emachine laptop have no dial up modem?

Correct. It's looking for a standard dialer modem. You may just need to go through the internet connection wizard and define how you want to connect. With a wireless adapter, you could locate and connect to internet with that instead of a dial-up modem. Internet connetion wizard comes with Vista and XP and is found: Start > Control Panel > Network connections.

I do not know how to use it

It has to have gprs and it must be modem enabled

3.You need a means of connection from your cell phone to your computer or laptop (inferred, bluetooth or usb cable)

4.You need a dialup connection

5.You need to know and change your proxey settings

Step 1:Take your gprs enabled cell phone and connect it to your computer or laptop using either buletooth, infered or a usb cable, date card

Step 2:Create a dial up connection.Go into yor control panel, then into internet options. Then go to connections and add.Create a dial up connection and when it asks for a phone number type in *99#

Step 3:On your new dialup connection add the same proxy address you have on your gprs in your cell phone.

Step 4:Now on your cpanel there should be something called modem options (If your 's doesn't have you'll have to search your computer for an option that allows you to change the acess point name or also known as the APN) here you must change the APN to whatever your APN is on yor gprs in your phone.

Step 5:Go to start menu and connect, then connect to your dial up (make sure your cell phone is connected to your computer or laptop)

Step 6:Start your browser (internet exploxer, opera etc) and start surfing the net.

Note that every cell phone has it's own speed for example 3g phones can reach up to speed's of 48 kb/s.

I've tried to make this tutorial as simple and as easy to follow as possible.

A BlackBerry smartphone with tethered modem capabilities can be used as an external modem to connect a computer to the Internet.

Scenario 2 to 4: Scenario 2) The modem does not have an Ethernet port. The modem is a dial-up modem for traditional dial-up service. To use the Router, you need a cable/DSL modem and high-speed Internet connection.

Scenario 3) You cannot use the DSL service to connect manually to the Internet.
After you have installed the Router, it will automatically connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), so you no longer need to connect manually.

Scenario 4) The DSL telephone line does not fit into the Router’s Internet port.
The Router does not replace your modem. You still need your DSL modem in order to use the Router. Connect the telephone line to the DSL modem, insert the setup CD into your computer, and then follow the on-screen instructions
