Look at the back and use the DVD/VCR connections rather than just the DVD connections. if the connections are proper then remove the cable and reinsert it properly and check out again.if still not got right its the problem of the main circuit board as any of the component supporting the vcr to function properly is got blowned and got faulty so its not working .you will have to get that component replaced.

If unit does not power up when VHS tape is inserted then it can be problem of tape loading sensors.
If tape is loaded but VCR does not play it there are few possibilities to check does video head motor spin? Do the tape being rewind or forward?
It can be mechanical and / or electronic problem if VCR section does not function.

    Try the following steps --

    1. It has to be no disc inserted
    2. Turn the player off and uplug it
    3. Press and hold PLAY and STOP, while doing this plug the player in
    4. "TEST************" is displayed
    5. Press PAUSE on the player
    6. Wait until green display/LED flashs (after about 10 secs)
    7. Turn the player off

let me know for further assistance.

To fix the problem the unit must be takena apart to check connection to VR unit.

This is a job for a technician.

First ensure it is not just an output selection problem.
Use the DVD remote to switch to VHS when you want to play a tape.

The only way to fix the problem is Taking apart the unit (by unscrewing the back and bottom of the DVD/VCR and inspecting the inside to find out why the VCR unit does not work.

If younit does not even play a VHS tape (no sound no traction) then it is probably a lose connection from power supply board inside the DVD to the VHS player.
Also the inside boards must be inspected for lose solder joints, with particular attention to VHS drive and power board.

Why doesn't the open/close button on DVD player of DVD/VCR combo work?

Assuming there is not a forgotten tape stuck in the VCR side, the mode selection logic has gotten all confused. On the VCR side, a tape is grabbed and loaded to be played. There probably is an EJECT button that is enabled for later use. The DVD side is disabled so no buttons work. On the DVD side, the open/close button is enabled (if no VCR-side problem is detected), allowing you to place a DVD in the tray and close it to play. The VCR side is disabled so no buttons work. That's the theory. From your description a sensor on the VCR side may have failed or been damaged, causing the player to keep reverting to VCR and preventing use of the DVD side.

Had power outage and now VCR/DVD does not turn back on. lights all work but it doesn't seem to pick up the channel?

Dis-connect the plug from the wall receptical and other leads attached to to the unit. Next press and hold power for too minutes in an attempt to reset the microprocessor, now hook everything back up and power on, if this fails it probably would be cheaper to replace the combo than have it repaired.

Menu bottons will not work flashing open disk tray

I have one that does that but I can still use the VCR for manual (not timed) recoding.
Get used to using VCR again.
It also serves as an AV1 to RF converter on dish units to RF TV's.

GO VIDEO model 1030....VCR works fine...DVD..nothing happens...door won't even open?

Combo units have this essential flaw--if one half fails you are usually done especially if the DVD side fails.

If Door does not open either a disc is jammed inside the mechanism or the mechanism is out of alignment or damaged.

Good argument against buying these units--DVD individual parts are rarely sold--only (if available) would be the entire DVD unit itself--not cost effective to repair.

DVD players are now real cheap (see some for as little as $20) so if not a simple jammed disc or something like that buy a DVD player.

Possible that the processor is not working. So check on the +5 voltage to the processor IC , if this is absent then power supply is faulty.
If not the mother board can be faulty. Try and see if the board can be switched and confirmed.

Vcr works but dvd player reads "bad disk"

What you have is a bad optical unit in the DVD portion of the equipment.

They do not sell individual parts for this unit so the entire DVD package (if it is even available) would have to be replaced---the optical portion reads the discs.

The cost of such a part would exceed the value of the unit.

I do not like giving bad news but from an economical point of view: not fixable.

Vcr and DVD combo for my television

The manuals and an FAQ for connection questions are available from Philips website (they do Maganvox as well).

Make sure you have a Red, white, yellow (A/V Composite) cable going from thsi unit to input of TV. If you are using coaxial (F-connector or "screw-in") cable going from this unit to TV, make sure you have an RF modulator between dvd and TV, or you may have problems.
