How to conect with wireless internet

The Network and Sharing Center in Microsoft* Windows Vista* can be used to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If an Internet connection is not automatically made by the operating system, you may need to contact your access point (AP), broadband wireless router manufacturer, or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Set Up a Secure Wireless Connection to the Internet

These steps assume that your network adapter; AP or router; and cable, DSL or another type of modem have already been physically connected and configured. They allow you to create a new connection and configure it accordingly.

Follow these steps to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If a wireless profile does not exist, you will need to create a secure wireless profile before you can set up a wireless connection to the Internet.

1. Access the Network and Sharing Center.

2. Select Set up a connection or network.

3. Click Connect to the Internet.

cs025389_selectanetwork_configurationnotmatching.jpg

4. Click Next.

5. Select Wireless. At this point, if the network(s) that are listed say that the network settings do not match the network requirements, as shown in Figure 1, create a secure wireless profile and then follow the steps again.

6. Select a network and click Connect. If you are not connected to the Internet, you may need to contact your AP/router manufacturer or ISP.

Access the Network and Sharing Center

To access the Network and Sharing Center, use one of the following methods:
  • Start » Control Panel » Network and Internet » Network and Sharing Center
  • Start » Network » Network and Sharing Center
  • Right-click the network system tray icon (the icon that displays two computer monitors) » Network and Sharing Center

Can't ping Default Gateway (XP) From Windows 7

Make sure you are receiving a proper IP address from the DHCP server....If you run a cmd prompt (windows icon, type cmd and hit eneter, then ipconfig) you should see a 192.168.0.x address. If not, go to the control panel, network connections, manage network connections, and be sure that TCP/IP (V4) is set as auto-configure....

If you are sharing the connection through an XP computer, you will need to run the Internet and connection sharing Wizard on the XP computer, and transfger the settings on a disk to the Windows 7 PC. A simpler solution (assuming you are on a cable/dsl connection would to be to go to your local big box store and buy an Internet/Firewall router. It would also increase your security.

What is is looking for? or what am i doing wrong? the three computer names (one vista and two win7) are bob-pc7-pc carole (vista) home-pc all are seen by all computers. help please

This sound like the network sharing is turned on on all three machines. If this is the issue, it is not a problem. It allows the computers to share files from the shared files folder. If this is annoying or if you do not wish to have this option available, go into "control panel" then "Network and Internet" then go to "Home Group" then go to "change advanced sharing settings" then turn off all of the options then "save changes" This is for a Windows 7 Machine but Vista machine should be pretty close to the same.

Cant conect to internet using wirles with Windows Vista

Hi,

This method will hard reset the wireless drivers back to default settings, but before you perform this remove power from the modem and router for 2 minutes reconnect power and wait another 2 minutes for them to settle down.

Right click "computer" select "manage" and then "device manager", a list will populate, then click on the + sign next to "network adapters" and right click on the wireless adapter and "uninstall" the device, reboot the PC and wait for windows to detect the wireless card and install the drivers for it, this will appear in the system tray (bottom right hand side) when its done try to connect again.

Good luck.

No net connectivity

If you encounter difficulties accessing computers that are visible on the network map, make sure the computer being accessed has an account with the same name/password as the system connecting to it uses to login.

To set up Network Sharing between XP and Windows Vista, please note that File and Printer Sharing is different in Windows Vista than from the setup in Windows XP.

On a computer running Windows XP, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network Connections.
Click Local Area Network Connection, click Properties, and then view the list of items used by the network connection.
Ensure that the Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder check box is selected.

How to share internet connection on Windows Vista OS. I want to share internet connection between two Laptops using Windows Vista Operating system and the other using Windows XP. The Host computer is...

All right let's call your Vista computer A and your Xp computer B. First you have to bring the two computers into LAN. If you already did this, please skip the next eight steps.

Step 1: In Vista, before doing this you should enable Sharing and Discovery. You can do that by going to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center. Under the section ‘Sharing and Discovery, enable Network discovery, File Sharing, Public folder sharing and others if you want to. (See picture below)

Step 2: If your LAN card that is connecting to another computer is installed, it will be shown under Control Panel -> Network Connections.

Step 3: Right click that local area connection and click properties.

Step 4: Under the tab ‘Networking’, click the properties Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Step 5: Click the radio button to ‘Use the following IP’ and give an IP address (For example, IP address: 192.168.0.1 and Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0)

Step 6: Don’t give any other information, Click Ok and close everything.

Step 7: In computer B, which is the XP, make sure you enable the LAN card which is used to connect to computer ‘A’. Here you need not give any IP information as Computer ‘A’ will assign an IP address dynamically. If it’s not working make sure there are no IP assigned and change the properties to ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’.

Step 8: Test the connection by pinging. (You can do this by typing ping 192.168.0.1 or whichever is Compter ‘A’s IP in the comand prompt)

NOW your computers are connected. Now to share the internet:

Right click LAN card which is connected to Internet under Control Panel -> Network Connections and click ‘Sharing’ tab and enable both the options to share Internet. (Note: Unless there is another enabled LAN setting you will not be able to see the shared tab under properties)

Click Ok and close. This option is given by the Windows OS known as ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).

Now you can use Internet from both Computer A and Computer B from a single connection.

So this is the setup you need on the Host computer as you requested, if you turn out to need help witht he XP one too, let me know:)

Sharing cannon printer MP170

If you want to make your printer a Stand-alone device (no need to be connected to a computer, just directly to the router) you may want to look at getting a Print-Server.

But if you just want to share the printers, you will have to install the printer separately on both computers (since they use 2 diff drivers for the printer), then share it on the vista computer. at this point you should now be able to print on both machines
