Image Sensor Problem

I just bought this canon camcorder from pawn shop today 8/7/08 and when I record it shows see through black line.

I talked to the pawn shop guy in person and I didn't gt a receipt.

do you think I will get my money back?

what should I do?

Canon said they would repair it for me for free Only if it is Image Sensor Problem

I am so Irratated
I bought my JVC GR-D850U Mini DVD a few months ago but have only used it 3 times. The last time I used it the video plays back with 5 horizontal black bars across the screen. These bars are equally spaced and the same size as the view of the recorded subject. It looks like the video was shot from behind partialy open window blinds.

I have the same problem with the JVC GR-D850.  There are lines thru the LCD during playback.  I checked some old videos that I recorded when the camera wasn't doing this and they are affected too. Does anybody know what this is?  I tried a cleaning tape it didn't work.

Does the black line record on the tape? When you play back on a TV/Computer can you still see the black line. If you do that would be the image sensor.
Good luck!!

My camcorder will record sound but not vision any Ideas

Does the recording show a black image or no video signal? If the image is black, is the cover being left on the lens? Is the lens broken or something perhaps internally obstructing its view. If there isn't a video signal, and it reads as only an audio file than have you checked you've set the camcorder to the correct setting so the video camera portion is turned on?

Black screen when we turn on the camcorder

This is a known issue for this camcorder model, canon will fix it for free. Heres there public announcement:

CCD Image Sensor

It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensor used in this Canon digital camcorder may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.

Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.

U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Camcorder will playback ,but shows no image when recording

Can you make it go while attached to a Power Adapter ? and with battery OUT, try that first. IF it works, buy a new battery for that model. Batteries can go so flat they cannot be charged, without special equipment, and even then they may not resurrect. funnily enough, leaving things without current running through them, or powering up,every few weeks, etc, can often cause a problem, strange huh?

Camcorder will not show picture records only

CANON relied on Sony to install their CCD (The image sensor) on most of their mini camera recorders. The mount for this CCD Component is defective. Canon recognizes this and currently, (2009) offers a 100% free replacement of this part.

The effect of the malfuctioning CCD is as you describe, everything works except there is no image captured.

I took mine in and they repaired it, no questions asked, except that I may want a few other things fixed up while they were there. I declined the additional work and it didn't cost me a cent.

Find Canons website and they have a deeler locator there where you can find an authorized repair center.

Tips in buying auctioned canon zr45mc mini dv camcorder

Don't buy it. Buy a real "digital" camcorder with a hard drive. You want one that you can simply upload video from camcorder to your computer using USB. This piece of **** needs firewire cable and to "record" to your computer using software. Don't use mini dvds, they are stupid. Just get a camcorder with a hard drive.
