Just bought a new HTC g1 android phone (unlocked version) from ebay. My problem is I can't use it here in the Philippines, and the phone always promted me that "there's no data provisions", after we tried to log-on to Google with our 2 networks here (Globe & Smart telecommunications. Was the unit defective? Is it really works here in any Network (specially here in the Phils)? or it is because my wife deleted the T-mobile settings when she was trying to activate the phone? Thanks in advance.

Hi. I'm afraid this is not possible with the current version of Android Operating System. Instead, you can synchronize your HTC G1 contacts with your GMail account, then through your GMail account, you can export your contacts and transfer them to another phone. Hope this helps.
You should update the 'System' on your phone.
Go to Settings>About Phone
Select 'System Updates' to get your system up to date. This should get you going with Android Market.
You will need some internet connection for this.
I wanted to unlock my G1 i recently purchased on ebay and I was not aware that its simlocked. I googled for almost half a day and I found that its impossible to unlock G1 any free method. There is many sites offering codes but most of them looked very unprofessional but at least some looked ok to me. I gave a try to FastGSM. Their service was amazing! I got code in less then 15 minutes and its price was just 20 usd. Some other sites was asking double money for same job.
i cant buy the HTC Dream yet, with being tied to an O2 Contract which expires jan. and also living in the UK wher the phone is released in 3 days.
The G1 has an Immense Buzz surrounding it, not so much with your Normal phone users. but smartphone users and Big Tech Lovers ! there are sites all over the internet crawling with G1 / Android activity. the main one i use regularly is http://androidcommunity.com/
There you will find all sorts of people. Thousands of them ! all with the same love for phones and technology as me :D if you want to find out anything about the G1. i suggest you go there !
