Picture dimming and an ominous clicking sound

I recently purchased (recently meaning 5 weeks ago) a 73" mitsubishi DLP. It has begun to make a weird clicking sound and changing from bright to dim in the process. Does anyone have a clue whatthat is or could mean???
thnx for the help

Thnx for the helpful and speedy feedback Dan. I already have a mitsubishi service center notified of the problem it's just an inconvinience to be without the tv already. I need to correct myself i bought it less than 4 weeks ago. It's a little discouraging to spend that much $ on a tv and have something go bad sooo soon.

    thnx again

Thnx again Dan. The shop i bought the set from was already out of business when i bought it that is why i got a good deal on it. I know one of the salesmen that used to work there while it was open and he's working on contract now for the owner to liquidate his inventory. I wish i could return it and get a new one though. I unplugged the set the other night and left it like that all night and it hasn't done it since. Does that make any sense to u? Or do u thuink it's just a fluke and the problem will arise again?

    Thnx

ok thnx Dan. So even though the shop i bought it from is out of business i might still be able to return it to the facotry and get a replacement from the factory?? Or will mitsubishi not deal like that?? Because i don't think i can return it to the store.

Thnx for the help once again I appreciate it.

If this set is really only 5 weeks old, place a warranty service request for repair. This should not be happening. Either the ballast is bad or the lamp. In any case, either should be covered under warranty.

Please keep us updated.

Thanks,
Dan

To have a failure this early is in fact very rare. The good news is that you will have no expense to resolve it. Given the short time to failure, I would ask for an exchange rather than a repair. Many retail shops will do this.

    Good luck.

Regardless of the deal you got with the retailer, there is a manufacturer's warranty that should cover this problem. The fact that the problem went away after being unplugged for a while suggests that the problem is heat related and will reappear after the set has been running for a while.

    Keep me posted.

I have a mitsubishi 73 wd-73642 it had sound and I have picture but its dark and when I turn it off it just blinks yellow off and on what could be wrong

The dim picture is an indication that the Xenon lamp is at the end of life. Check the menu and settings to determine if the lamp needs replacing. Generally, they work well for 4000 hours then begin to get dimmer, slowly with time. Replacing the lamp is simple. You tube has videos that will show you how. The lamp should be less than $100 and can be ordered on line. I recommend you clean the DLP heat sink and the fans while you're at it to prevent overheating and eventual failure of the DLP chip. I had to replace the one in my WD-65835 Mitsubishi. Good luck.

Like stated before--May be another bad blub, especially if you used a generic or Neolux one. A phillips bulb WILL work right. Mits sets do NOT like generic bulbs !!

73 mitsubishi dlp tv 73737 has sound but no picture with red light in frount

You need a new lamp. The red light means the lamp failed to turn on.
You can find cheap ones on ebay for about $40. If you go to best buy they will charge an arm and a leg. You can change the lamp yourself and it will take less than 15 mins to do. The only tools youll need are a phillips screw driver and maybe a flat head.
