Question about Makita 2704 Contractors 15 Amp 10 Inch Benchtop Table Saw

Makita 2704 I overloaded my motor

It stars up now and after a few seconds it makes a noise then blows a circuit breaker. Can this be repaired or can I get a replacement motor?

I tried lube and still no help. The problem is due to me pushing the motor to hard on a large piece of wood. the blade got hot and then stopped. I blue a breaker before I shut it off. Now when I start it up it sounds smooth and fine for about 2 seconds then it makes a rough sound and trips my breaker.

I tried to rip a 2x4 vertically as is touted by Makita. The blade locked up and I hit the safety to off. Tried to cut something else and the motor immediately started to smoke. I think the motor is gone.

If the motor RPM drops dramatically when the noise starts, it is probably a dry motor bushing, if this just started, lubricating the motor may just fix it.

Table saw will run a couple seconds and the thermal reset breaker throws - no problem w/ incoming voltage, I guess it needs replacing?

SOUNDS like if a breaker is thrown,it is possible that you are overloading that branch circuit(meaning there are other working outlets on that circuit) SOUNDS like breaker is working fine.

Faulty table saw

I don't have table saw but my guess would be power shortage. Maybe try plugging it in different amp circuit and see if that makes difference.

My 2704 is blowing fuses, there is no fault on the lead

You may have a motor winding lead that has touched the case of the motor, shorting out the windings, drawing too much amperage, thus blowing fuses. You may have to disassemble your motor and check the stator windings for a short as well as the armature windings. Also the motor could be hanging up due to bearing trouble and causing the motor to draw too much amperage. Probably the cheapest thing to do would be to replace the motor.

Trying to cut any size piece of wood the saw blows the circuit breaker at the panel 1x4 piece

Are you operating the saw on a 10 amp circuit or with a long extension cord? Table saws need at least a 15 amp circuit and should not be used with an extension cord. If absolutely necessary the extension cord should be no less than 12 guage. Tabel saws will run OK on a 10 amp circuit but as soon as you apply a load (try to cut wood) the power requirements go up to keep the saw turning. If you can, plug it into another outlet on a higher capacity circuit breaker or at least closer to the breaker box. If it still pops the breaker you may have bearing problems in the motor that are creating too much friction. This would make the motor work harder to turn so it would draw excessive power and trip the breaker.

before you replace it, you can try and clean the commutator. To do this first unplug the tool and turn the saw on its backside. remove the brushes and find a emory board (cardboard) while turning the blade by hand (use a glove) lightly touch the board to the commutator to try and clean the surface, While doing this try and notice any raised sections of the comm, if there are any then you would need a new armature and possibly field. I would try cleaning first though. Let me know if you have any more questions.

there are no capacitators that I see. What I would do is unplug the tool and remove the brushes and check there condition for burning/wear and if you can look into the brush tube and carefully turn the motor by hand and look at the commutator for discoloration. Sounds like you may have overheated the motor. I'm surprised the overload on the motor didn't trip first. With this overheating, the windings in the motor have basically shorted out to ground. This is why your breaker is tripping. Rewinding the motor is no longer the option these days. You can try going online to www.searspartsdirect.com

My Bosch 4000 table saw blade spins very slow. What the problem would be?

could be bearings locking up/seizing or do you smell any burning when running indicating the armature/field are burnt from possibly overloading with a dull blade.
