Question about Gateway M505 Notebook
I can't figure out how to remove the slot drive cdrw-dvdrom from my Gateway M505
The optical drive bay screw was hidden by a plastic cover on my Gateway M505B2. It was the ONLY screw on the computer that was hidden, so I missed it and broke off the faceplate of the CD/DVD drive when trying to remove the drive. (Grrrrrrr...) So finding the link for the correct procedure was most welcome. (I carefully glued the faceplate back onto the drive...)

Yeah, the solution posted in the Gateway manuals was the way to go, the only trick was to figure out the one screw that is responsible to remove the cd-rom. I was wondering if anybody knew of any way to repair the cd-rom after opening it?
Since a couple of months, the cd-rom does not allow me to insert a cd, feels as if something is blocking the slot and am sure there is no cd in there, otherwise the cd details would be available in my computer.

Tips for a great answer:
Mar 20, 2012 | Dell OPTIPLEX GX260/SMT P4 2GHz 512MB...
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down cd dvdrom drives if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark?! or a red x right click you will need to update the driver or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver
hope this helps
