Dear Thomas,
There is an easy way to empty the trash folder on your iPad email app. Here is how:
1. Open the "Mail" app on your iPad.
2. Tap on the upper-left icon in the Mail app. It might say, "Mailboxes" or in my case, it says "Gmail".

I delete emails but they still remain on the ipad

If you deleted emails they should be in trash. They need to be deleted from trash, too. After emptying the trash they will be gone.

Whats the difference between trash and junk and how can I get rid of junk quickly?

Trash would be anything that you delete that comes from people you get email from. Junk would be like junk mail...unwanted or spam emails. Usually junk/spam email deletes instantly so you cannot retrieve it if you make a mistake. Trash usually deletes in 30 days. Some email servers allow you to change those settings as well

When I go to email on my Ipad my Inbox is overflowing with old emails that I had previously deleted on my desktop, how do I get rid of them quickly and stop others coming in

Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars then tap the account you're having trouble with.

Assuming you're using an IMAP account, tap the account user ID on the first line. Scroll to the bottom and tap Advanced.

Tap Deleted Mailbox. In the ON THE SERVER section, tap Trash (making the Trash mailbox on the server your "Trash" location). Back up to Advanced and make sure MOVE DISCARDED MESSAGES INTO: is set to Deleted Mailbox.

You may want to do the same thing for your Sent Mailbox (using Sent on the server for sent messages - so they're retrievable from your desktop).

This fix may result in all the old deleted messages on the iPad being moved to the server and then showing up again in your deleted messages on your desktop. The Mail app will eventually delete them as it does any deleted messages according to its settings.

How can i view the trash folder on ipad 1?

There is no trash folder on iPads, but you may be able to view the trash folder for the deleted email.

For instance if you use Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail, you could log into the web version of those services and check the trash bin and recover from there.

Hope that helps!
