I'am looking for codes for my scanner.

If by "codes" you mean frequencies, your local Radio Shack store sell scanner books based on geographical location and used to (still might) on types of services you're interested in monitoring. This was before the internet, so the demand has dropped considerably as most folks can get what they're looking for simply by googling a search term like "Boston scanner frequencies" or "Cook County IL Scanner Frequencies" etc (drop the quotation marks and insert your town, city, county or state. You may also find websites that are designed to host an online community of local scanner enthusiasts - which trade frequencies, and other info.

If "codes" means something else, please explain.

Good luck!

BC340RS want to listen to digital police frequencie. I work for Lewiston fire department in Maine. We are on 153.950 believe we are analog the scanner picks that up fine Lewiston PD is digital 158.790...

This usually means a software package that is capable of decoding digital.

Most bearcats are pretty good in the digital area.

It some cases it may even mean a slight modification to the scanner.

You should be aware however that scanner use in the US has quite strict legislation which in some states may prohibit the decoding of such signals so please check first.

A good source of information are the two sites below

Frequencies

Scanner software

These may also help you find out if it legal or not in your state

No problem!
First if you don't have an owner's manual you can download a copy free HERE

Be sure to read all of it...it's got great info to get you comfortable with all the controls of your scanner.

Secondly you'll need local radio frequencies for your area.
Do a google.com search enter "radio frequencies" and also the name of your city, county and state.
You'll find people may have posted lists of frequencies for your area.

Print out the lists and then by following the step by steps in the owner's manual, enter each frequency into your scanner .

Once you've got them entered... you'll be ready to scan!
For understanding the 10-code language used, do a google search for "10-codes" and you should be able to find a list of definitions... They'll also use alot of local abreviations for street names and locations and those will be understood more as you listen to your local calls for a while.
good luck and have fun...and be safe.

Hey Smarthome2, I found the manuel but it doesn't give me the local frequency numbers, would you by any chance know how I can acquire these...thanks

The easiest way to get local frequencies is to go to a search engine such as google, and type in "radio frequencies" and your town, city or county name and state. You'll find a few lists to copy freq's from. Simply enter and away you go!
