Hello,

Please try go to control panel and then administrative tools, computer management. click drive management then delete the excess drive which is unknown to you.

else if this not resolve you can maybe its a network drive. If you are sure that this not annoy to you then you can ignore, However if is bad to you then you can eliminate that by clean format and re installation of windows again.

may this help,

My computer crashed message I get is windows could not complete installation to install windows on this computer restart installation

Get a new copy of the operating system and probably you can also change the CD drive. It might be a reason that the CD drive can not read the CD on which the Operating system is located. Another option is to get an external CD/DVD drive that will also help big time. Try to install and see if it will refuse again...Normally your problem is caused by the scracthes on the CD with the operating system and or the CD drive that is being used, being sensitive to scrathed parts on the cd.

File will not rewrite to cd, computer does not reconize cd installed

Can it play a music CD or retrieve data from an existing one?
You can click start, my computer and at least see if your DVD
drive (D: usually) is there. If the inserted DVD or CD is good, it
will show free and used space. Your drive may have gone bad.
Some computer centers have walk in clinics and may be able
to determine that.

Hi there.

For this process you will need:
1) The hard drive you want the operating system on.
2) The operating system disk (Windows, Linux, etc, depending on your os choice)
3) A CD/DVD drive.

Firstly you will need to enter the BIOS on startup by pressing the Delete key repeatedly as your system starts up. In the BIOS you need to locate the boot disk priority section. You need to set priority 1 to your CD/DVD drive and priority 2 to the hard drive you wish to install the operating system to. Once this is done save changes to the BIOS and exit. Your system should now restart and on boot-up it should display a message "Insert bootable disk" or something like that. This is where you put in the operating systems install disk into your CD/DVD drive. Once it is in restart your system. Now your PC should boot up and ask you to press "Enter" to boot form the CD/DVD. Press enter to proceed. The setup should now begin, just follow the steps given by the setup wizard. Once the setup is finished and your PC reboots and on startup you get the same message about pressing "Enter" to begin setup just do nothing. Your PC should then switch automatically to your newly installed operating system and boot into it. Once your PC is fully booted into your operating system of choice remove the setup disk.

Unable to load any game on my computer, the CD drive is showing every file on the CD but after 3-4% of installation setup the error reads unable to read, the same CD is working in other computers, do I...

Since the disk works "elsewhere", it's probably your CD-drive that is faulty. Spend $40 to replace it with a brand-new CD/DVD reader/writer.

The only other possibility is "bad" RAM on your computer's motherboard -- but you would be seeing other symptoms when using your computer, if this was a problem.

Cd drive doesn't work

Check that the data-cables and power-cables for your drives are tightly connected, both at the "back" of the CD/DVD drive, and where the data-connector connects to the motherboard.

Also, on the back of each CD/DVD drive are three "pairs" of pins,
labelled MA(ster), and SL(ave), and C(able)S(elect).

Confirm that both drives have a jumper at the CS position,
or move the jumpers so that one drive is at the MA position,
while the other drive is at the SL position.

You must avoid setting _BOTH_ drives to 'MA' or _BOTH_ to 'SL'.

Dell 340 will not recognize my cd or dvd drive.

check if you see any light on the drive, if yes. then the power is there and then the problem is with the data cable of the cd drive. try to repalce the cd drive with another cd drive. if it still doesnot work and if the same cables work with the hard drive, then the cd drive has gone bad. and if the new drive also doesnot work then reinstalling the operating system should fix the problem only and only if it appears in the bios. if it doesnot appear in the bios. then the problem is not of the operating system. then its the motherboard.

Stopped recognising dvd drive

Hi there. There may not be anything wrong it. CD/DVD drives use Class Filters, instead of the usual drivers that we would associate most computer hardware with. These are installed when the Operating System is setup, as Class Filters only add functionality of the drive with the Operating System. They are also available from the motherboard manufacturer's website, (these are known as Motherboard Drivers and Chipset Drivers). They can also be obtained via the Toshiba website here:

http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK

All you need to do, is select your notebook type and model. Then scroll down till you find either the DVD_RAM driver and/or Chipset Driver that go with your Operating System. Download them and install. This should correct the problem.

Hard drive not found

Wayneard is correct. When you install a brand new hard drive as the ONLY hard drive in the computer, there is no operating system loaded. The computer will try to boot from the hard drive and stop. Switch your boot order to have the CD boot first, and be sure you have the operating system installation CD in your CD drive.

Also, double check your hard drive connections. Be sure it is in the "master" position on the hard drive cable. If there is a connection problem, the system will complain after CD start that there is no hard drive available to install the operating system on!

Good luck.
