Sony KF 42WE610 blinking red (non-lamp light) won't turn on

I have a Sony Grand Wega that won't turn on. It blinks red for a minute or so in intervals of 3 and then stops. The night before this happened the screen was very dim but the lamp light is not coming on like it did last timethe bulb went out and the bulb appears to be OK. It doesn't look damaged and is less than a year old. Wondering if I should buy a new lamp anyway. Any ideas???

Not thinking it's a power supply issue- Can somebody else provide their 2 cents. Thanks.

  • amymoody Feb 13, 2009

Now that makes sense- How do I remove the part that needs to be fixed and where might I take it??

  • amymoody Feb 13, 2009

    Is it worth fixing?

Will getting a new lamp be a short term solution?

  • amymoody Feb 13, 2009

how do you check the soldering

    too old

  • amymoody Feb 13, 2009

Dipu007- you're a genius. I pressed the cover in tighter and it began to flash green (instead of the 3 flash red your cover is not on right light) and then the lamp light came on. At least now I know to buy a new lamp. Thanks.

Hello

Three blinks
- B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672. Let me know what you find after checking these. The power supply is at fault as others have suggested, this is just a little more detailed.

Lamp Cover is not attached properly.
Please remove lamp cover and make sure to fix it properly, well seated in its place and tight screw. There is a safety switch under lamp cover that should be pressed when lamp cover is closed.

if it could not solve ur problem ..then u have to change LAMP..

If the TV is less than a year old, contact Sony. They will have engineer send at your home to diagnose the problem and repair it for you.

Thanks

Here are a couple to get you started...

    http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/...

    http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/...

I've never experienced this problem myself - knock on wood - but from what I've read, it can be caused by a couple of different things.

One problem involves the lamp cage being loose. The fix is easy. All you do is remove the lamp and put it back in, making sure everything is tight. I guess they had a problem at the factory, for a while, not tightening the lamp cage. After a certain number of heating cycles, the lamp quits making connection. These were made mostly from late 2003 to early 2004, as I understand it.

The other problem is more serious. Sony has an advisory out about it. I guess they have to replace like 9 different parts - boards and so forth.

Anyway, good luck! Hope this helps...

Hi..the reason to this problem may be the circuit
board. There may be some problem in your chips.
It might not have been properly soldered.so check
for the soldering. This could be the only reason. If you
still continue the problem check the transistor once.
These two could be the reason for the failure.
check this out..
thank u..

If you google search this system you will see that ALOT of people just like you are having the same problem and you either continue to replace the lamp or just buy a new TV altogether. Sony is trying to figure out why this system is doing this since for the most part all there TVs are really good systems

That code represents a power supply board failure. probably a solder break or, circuitry separation.

This can be removed and transferred to a local tech for a rebuild. about $120 tops.

If your tv will not power up, its not the lamp, its the power supply board.

I do way more power supply replacements than any other replacements in the last three years. they take a beating.

you will have to remove the power supply board itself to check the solder circuit points.

Sony LCD Model KF-60WE610 lamp was replaced and then it shortly after stopped turning on. Blinks Green 6 times then Red 6 times Please help!

For Sony Model KF-60WE610, KF-50WE610, and KF-42WE610, the Diagnostic Code of power light indicator flashing 6 times green, then flashing 6 times red (6 red etc), means you need to replace part number A-1302-272A G1 BOARD, COMPLETE. See Sony Service Manual, 4. Chasis-1 at part Ref no. 103. The Power Board sits vertically in two slots on the left side of the electronics board. 4 wire connectors to remove when replacing. This component fits all 3 KF models listed above.

Sony tv kf-42we610 tv will not come on and red light blinks three times

Three flashes usually means the lamp cover is not attached securely and the TV has gone into a "stand by" mode, recheck that the lamp, lamp door, and front panel is securely attached.

Good Luck !

Check your lamp cover on the rear it may be loose which will cause the tv to turn off. Also the light under the power light is the lamp indicator. If it is blinking it may be getting ready to fail.
