    1. Is it prompting you in BIOS (before Windows loads) or is it prompting you after Windows loads at a Windows-looking prompt?

    2. Is it possible someone else has access to the pc and set one to lock you out (don't ask why, there are just weird people and maybe one is after you).

If it is in BIOS, that is a power on password set in BIOS, the workaround would be to open up the case, remove the CMOS battery, wait 2 days, battery dead, wipes out pword and resident memory then you can reset it.

If it is in Windows, there are utilities you can use to boot to CD to overwrite or delete the admin password if someone set one to lock you out. Trinity is a good one.

If you are talking about Windows asking for a password and not the bios asking for a password. I have run into this problem before. If you can boot into safe mode you should see an admin user with the regular user /s. Click on the admin user hopefully it doesnt have a password or it has one you know then click start, click on control panel, if you dont have your system set for classic mode click it on the upper left corner of the control panel window, then click User accounts, click on the user you want to remove the password from. There whould be a choice for remove password or change password. Remove the password from there and then restart the computer. If that doesnt work then go here and check out the tips.
Hope this helps...

Okay I have seen several solutions for your issue. The most reliable (although not very fun) would be a visit to a Toshiba tech. They have access to the good secrets. The solution above posted by 007 is one of the solutions I have used on older models but it may not work on newer models like yours. I have also seen ways to reset by jumping certain solder pins on a mainboard to reset the bios on a laptop but finding the right ones is difficult. I did some research and I found that bios password reset for your model is shown as not available for your model on most sites that help with bios resets. I found an article on the Toshiba website that explains your issue. It appears that your model had a bios problem and there is no fix for it once it happens. If you had known about the bios problem before it happened you could have updated the bios and bypassed the issue but Toshiba says that after the problem starts you have to send the laptop in for repair. Here is a link to the article and it looks like this will be taken care of under warranty till 2010. If you want to make sure you get your computer back without windows being reinstalled please talk with Toshiba support and ask them about sending them the laptop without the hard drive installed or with a blank drive. Just tell them that you cant let the information in your laptop go anywhere without you. (or something like that) Heres the link to the article on the support site.

I want to connect my Cassatt Tape Recorder to Toshiba Satellite M45-S165 Laptop and record data by using Audacity Software. Recommend the connection cable

I have never used that programme but expect it uses the sound card as an interface. If it does, the manual will tell you, you will need a Phono lead with 3.5mm jack plug on one end.
Hope that helps.

Remove password the bios of toshiba m45-s169

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.
