Video Capture Card

I'm looking to copy a VHS tape to my computer so that I can burn it to a DVD. I've been told I need to install a video capture card. Is this possible?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

This depends on your operating system and video display hardware, but a lot of the time, updating to the latest video driver for the card will solve the problem.
The other possibility is that you are set to the wrong video source (for example, the S-Video instead of the composite).
The third possibility is that you are set to be "PAL" capture for an NTSC source or vice versa. If you are in the US, set NTSC. If anywhere else, select PAL.

How do I get vhs video onto my computer?

You need a TV capture card... the package includes connectors for VHS & other DV cameras, you also need of course a VHS player..

While the VHS player is playing your VHS tape... the computer can now record it via the TV capture card.

That's what I do... goodluck and don't forget to rate...

Conversion vhs to dvd

I can only offer you 1 option for this case.
In converting the VHS video tape to DVD you can use computer. All you need to have is the VHS player with RCA audio video cables. Then a computer that has video capture card or USB capture card. This will take time but you can just transfer all the copyrighted videos to DVD and to computer data (post to internet)

*Needs realtime transfer VHS to Computer with the prefered resolution option.
*Burn to DVD, it will depends on your DVD drive speed.

Transferring analog to DVD

I envisage two options for you: 1. Install a video capture card in your pc. Choose one that has ports that match your analog camcorder ports. Best option: Separate capturing using S-video + a separate audio connection. Common and simpler option: Campture "composite" video using one video + one audio jacks. You don't need a new camera to make DVDs from your analog tapes. 2. Buy a pass-through (must be this type, not all digital cameras have this function!) digital camera. Connection and flow: analog camera (or your analog VHS VCR)to digital camera (via RCA cables); digital camera to pc (preferably using Firewire)- all simultaneously. Here, the digital camera will perform the function of a capture card. You will certainly need a software to capture via capture card/pass-through digital camera to your pc hard disc. Your captured video on pc can be initially in AVI/ DV AVI(better options to edit) and then convert to MPEG2 (DVD) format, or directly in mpeg format (with poor editability). Frame size (capture resolutions) should be as big as possible. In any case you will need some basic knowledge on digital video, capturing, and editing. And all the nitty-gritty that you will need to know can be found somewhere like "Digital Video Primer" and "DVD Primer".
