    Just a tip.

To make it easier also dont really worry about getting the same part number, there are others that work better.

You will need to know what socket your AMD processer is. They are eather 776 or socket A.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my understanding, Toshiba laptops would have:

  • fan P/N starts with K000??????
  • heatsink P/N starts with P000??????
Perhaps you can check for those numbers.

Post back verified part numbers. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

I understand that you have a Sharp laptop but the parts were manufactured by Toshiba. Hence the request for verification of the part numbers. If the Sharp laptop was manufactured in 2002 and currently parts are NLA (no longer available), then one course of action is to go straight and look for Toshiba parts. Toshiba has a more extensive lineup and parts are readily available compared to Sharp.

    Cheers.

To have this heatsink replace I will advice you to just take it to a local computer repair shop near you to have the heatsink replace, since sharp and toshiba cannot provide you any help in finding the replacement part, because you can also use other brand of heatsink that is available on your local computer shop..

Laptop heats up then shuts down cools down starts again does same thing again

That sounds like the cooling fan is either plugged up, or it is faulty, or the cooling fins for the CPU heat sink are plugged up with lint and dust. The cooling fan on that toshiba should be accessible through a cover panel under the pc notebook. Remove the cooling fan and use compressed air in a can to clean the cooling fan and the cooling fins to the CPU heat sink and be sure that the air intake vents for the cooling fan are also clean and free of any dust, dirt, or lint. Here are some images that are similar to help assist you, and let me know if you require any further assistance.

Please immediately call sony support, in case your unit is in warranty, they would do an inwarranty repair on your unit. I used to work for sony in 2005, at that time they did not have a policy of giving you a replacement unit in warranty. I do not have any idea now.

How to upgrade memory. I need module definition for 1Gig so I can purchase it.

You need a 512MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz SO-DIMM for a laptop (200-pin). The manufacturer I think doesn't specifically support anything over 512MB. But the RAM is standard and I doubt there is any need to buy it directly from Sharp. The laptop only has one upgradable bay so you may not be able to upgrade past 1.25 GB.

One of the memory covers is not removable, if I remember correctly, that is the one under the keyboard. So the one you update is a panel on the bottom.

Computer shut down on it's own and will not restart. I get the blue lights on front but no other activity

You could have a faulty fan and/or heatsink/fan assembly clogged with dust.
When a laptop shuts down and will bot boot up again until it has cooled down, then this is a CPU thermal shutdown and if not corrected then eventually the CPU will fail completely.
Check the fan to see if it spins freely and turns on, if not replace the fan. Also remove the dust off the fan and heat-sink assembly.
If you are still having problems you can purchase a fan assisted cooling pad. Place the laptop on the cooling pad and it provides addition fan assisted air to the bottom of the laptop vents.

Voltage overload from ac adapter into sharp pc-al27 laptop

If Adapter gave overvoltage, it may have fried the motherboard.

To start remove battery and charger to reset laptop and re connect after five minutes.

If the laptop is still dead, then replace the motherboard, that is the only way out.

My Intel socket 478 HSF is not working

Simply replace the fan, there are high CFM aftermarket replacements in 60, 80 & 120mm sizes, all that is required of you is to unscrew the old fan unit and resecure the NEW, local electronics stores (and more specifically) PC technology stores could assist with the location of a suitable replacement fan... if all else fails there's the internet stores!

Sharp PC-AL27

There was a post I read on a notebook forum site that deals with a BIOS problem with the Sharp Actius PCAL27 from a guy named fixyourlaptop AT yahoo DOT com. He stated that he was a Sharp tech, and that the main problem with the AL27 is not the battery, but the BIOS.

There is apparently an issue with these BIOS that causes the power usage of the battery to show incorrectly. I purchased my laptop over three years ago, and just recently updated the BIOS sent me by this fellow, and my laptop battery discharges properly. It still only has about an hour of life but this is the first time it ever worked right.

You can email him for the fix at the above address. Just put in the subject line SHARP LAPTOP AL27 BIOS FIX. He is legit and the fix worked like a charm.

If you want to read his post just do a search for the above (properly formatted) email address on google.
